My all Sclero friends.

Just to let you know, I went through a surgical procedure – Toupet Fundoplication to relieve my acid reflux problems.. This is a partial wrap. I went through the procedure at UCSF on May 20th and I am recuperating now. It took three hours of laparoscopic surgery by Dr. Compose. This surgery will not eliminate acid reflux completely, but will reduce it drastically and prevent any further damage to my lungs.
At least I don’t have problems with swallowing (dysphagia) after the surgery which is a major side effect of any acid reflux surgery in Scleroderma patients.
Kind regards,

Kamlesh

Kamlesh, I am so happy the surgery went so well for you. Glad to hear that you aren't having any post surgery issues. Rest and let that body heal a bit. Keep us informed on how well you are doing.
Strength and Warmth,
Sheryl

Hi, Kamlesh - glad the surgery went well. I know you have been thinking about it for a long time, so it must be something of a relief just to have it behind you. I hope it does the trick for you. Now take it easy and enjoy your rest. How long do you expect to be away from work?
Warm wishes,
Jefa

Dear Kamlesh,

I'm delighted you had the surgery and that it went well. I hope that it lessens your reflux and hopefully brings it to a very manageable level.

My husband (who does not have scleroderma) had a full Nissen Fundoplication surgery four years ago, in order to qualify to be listed as a lung transplant patient. They have found that lung transplant patients with reflux have a worse outcome. He had a really great surgeon and he has not had any heartburn since then.

It's too bad that the full Nissen often has complications for scleroderma patients, like you mentioned. I hope your partial wrap works well and holds you in good stead.

Shelley, Jefa, Serena, Sheryl, and Pam,
Thank you for kind words. I am recovering nicely. Basicall, doctor did 180 degree Fundoplication and shaped the valve correctly. Also, they fixed Hiatal hernia also.
I am on liquid/soft food diet and planning to take 2 weeks off. It still hurts. I am glad I went through it and so far no regrets. In my case nothing was working and the surgery was only choice.

Thanks again!
Kind regards,

Kamlesh
