I know most of you (probably all of you) are not goat farmers, but I love the silly, interesting creatures.

Mostly I have had good luck with my small herd because I have tried to minimize the chance of accidents.

But yesterday morning I found one of my 4 month old bucklings had choked himself. I should have seen the possible peril but didn't so I have been beating myself up over his loss. I don't know why I feel that I should prevent them from ever having the chance to make a bad choice but I do.

Anyway, it was my fault, I know I can't see everything that can go wrong and feel so bad right now.

I just want to get it out so that I can get over it- being stressed is not good for my health.

Rest in peace little Hock- I'll miss you. Your brother Knee is sad too.

Oh no, Enjoytheride, how awful! Whatever happens to animals in our care we feel responsible for even when we aren't. Remember that little Hock had a fabulous life, as short as it may have been it was a happy one and you can't ask for more than that.

Take care. :emoticon-hug:

I'm so sorry about Hock. When you share your life with someone (regardless of species), their death hits hard. I'll be thinking about you both and also Knee.

Thank you for your thoughts. I couldn't seem to get past the blame thing yesterday until I wrote it down. I do feel better today- more just sad rather than angry with myself.

Hello Enjoytheride

I'm so sorry to read about poor Hock; those of us that have animals and love them understand how awful you feel. At least the 4 months of his life were happy and he was well cared for and loved throughout that time.

Run free at Rainbow Bridge Little Hock. :crying:
