Hello everyone,

I woke up with a cold today, sore throat, headache, stuffed up/running nose. I'm going to take increased doses of Vita C today, but someone told me to take Zinc. Not sure if that is something we're supposed to take? Any thought? I'm trying to get well FAST as I have a trip coming up.

Thanks for your help! :thank-you:

I was always told to start taking zinc once school was about to start as all the little germs being passed around to others at this time. So for years now I take zinc starting September. I take it for a couple months. Any time during the year I feel like I may be catching a cold or infection of some sort I start taking zinc for a few weeks. It seems to help keep colds to a minimum if I do get one. I hope the zinc works for you as well as it does for me.
Strength and Warmth,
Sheryl

Here's the NIH fact sheet on Zinc. It's got the recommended dietary allowances, some interesting info on zinc and colds/flu and some absolutely fascinating data on what all we need zinc for - seriously!

Speaking of colds/flu - I just got my flu shot, here's hoping it wards off the nasties this year. :fairy:

Good luck with the zinc and have a great trip!

Thanks Sheryl and Jeannie,

I bought lozenges today that directs you to dissolve one in your mouth ever 2 hours until your symptoms stop. I hope this works. The article was very interesting, thank you Jeannie. I've been so busy with other things that I didn't even THINK about the flu vaccine yet. Thanks for the reminder! :emoticon-hug:

I have read that people with scleroderma should not up their vitamin C intake. Though it is an antioxidant, it is an immunostimulator - the last thing you need with sclero.

the zinc I have heard is very essential in sclero along with other antioxidants

I was starting to get a cold several years ago and a friend told me to start taking vitamin C and zinc. So I started taking it off and on. About a year ago I decided to take it everyday. I have been so fortunate not to get any colds. I hope it continues that way and I will continue to take my zinc and vitamin C along with all my other vitamins.
