ISN New Page: Palliative Care. Palliative Care is an individualized, full-service care plan for people who have serious illnesses. The aim of it is to improve the patient's quality of life. You can enroll in a palliative care program without being in hospice. Hospice is for people who are near the end of life and who are no longer pursuing a treatment or cure for their illness; basically it is to make people as comfortable as possible in their remaining days. Hospice always includes palliative care. However, people at any stage of a serious illness can enroll in a palliative care program. Palliative care is a covered benefit by Medicare. It is a wonderful resource for people with systemic scleroderma, to help improve quality of life. Posted 10/07/10.

I'd like to really thank our wonderful Judith Thompson Devlin for the inspiration to post the palliative care pages. She is enrolled in a palliative care program, which she has discussed on the forum, and she also privately urged me to cover the topic on the website. She has also sent me links and useful information on palliative care, to feature on the pages.
Warm Hugs,
