Hey everyone, I got weighed yesterday at the doctor office. Since I changed my eating habits about 2 weeks ago...I've lost 4lbs. I know it's not much, but it's a beginning!!! Thanks so much for all your support!!! It really helps! I hope I can keep losing during the holiday season. It's gonna be hard, so much food around. But Will POWER and determination is strong!! Susieq that is awesome. I have been working at that myself. I have been serious about it for a couple months. I still haven't lost any weight. I have been doing many things to figure out a possible solution but nothing is working at the moment. Maybe I still am eating far too few calories daily. I am between 800 and 1200 calories daily and that is hard to maintain for me. Being diabetic on top of having very high triglycerides and high total cholesterol makes it hard to find things I can eat. That is not counting the acid reflux and watching the yeast and dairy products I consume. Sometimes it is quite hard to figure out what to do with out starving.

Hey Susie, well done! All the experts say losing 1-2 pounds a week is the healthiest rate to lose at and the one that will have the most chance of being a permanent loss.

If I don't blow it this weekend, I will have lost 1.5 pounds this week and possibly a bit more since it is only Thursday. What seems to be the answer for me (I know it is still early days), is having a high protein breakfast and increasing my total calorie intake. I am absolutely not a breakfast person, so that part has been hard. It's also a little difficult to schedule meals around around the pills (take this one with food, that one on an empty stomach :blink:), but I am trying hard not to go longer than 4-4.5 hours between eating. Now I could graze all day, that wouldn't be hard, but having a meal instead of a non-nutritious snack is tough!

Wow, Susie, what excellent news about your weight....I'm very impressed! (and envious!! ;) )

Part of the secret of losing weight is being totally focused about it; each time you feel like lapsing and want to reach for the biscuit barrel, just remember the weight you've lost already, and how much better you're feeling about yourself :VeryHappy:

You'll be a shadow of your former self before you know it!! :lol:

Susie, major congratulations! I know we can trust that you are losing weight in a safe and sane manner. Jeannie's right, slower weight loss is wonderful because it is much more likely to stay off long term.

I'm also in Jeannie's shoes, in that I have to eat more in order to lose weight, thanks to Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I started increasing my intake two days ago. It may take me awhile to get up to 1700, as I tend to get bloated if I add too much, too fast; g.i. issues mean I have to go about changes slower than I'd like.

Susie, congrats for losing 4 lbs, a great start!! :emoticons-yes:

I've started eating better with a sensible breakfast (used to be just coffee!), now having oatmeal with half a banana. They say it gets the metabolism going more with a good breakfast..we'll see.

Keep up the good work, we know you can do it!!

I love the fact that I can count all sorts of activities and get exercise points. For instance, Belly Dancing: Activity type: Aerobic Intensity: Moderate Description: Performing a Middle Eastern, moderately active dance done by both men and women traditionally for festive occasions. Doing this activity without stopping for 22 minutes will earn 100 Activity Points. My goal is only 150 points a week at first! Of course I could run the vacuum sweeper which would get me 100 points for 29 minutes of moderate effort. Hmmm, they don't know about the dog-hair dust bisons threatening to stampede! I'd give that one an extra 15 points. :D

Thanks everyone!!! It is a hard thing to change a habit that I've been into for years. So one day at a time. I did go to a party last night, and was a good girl, and only ate a little bit. It was great! I am determined to make this work!! I'm just trying to eat around 1,200-1500 a day. A balanced diet. Not too many carbs, (bread, etc.) and lots of protein. So far so good. I'm happy for those that are also working on a
change of diet. It is hard...so hard, especially this time of year. But giving it a chance anyway!

Hi Susie,

Just one tip: it is very good for a diet to make green smoothies. These are mixed fruits (pear, pineapple, mango, apple, banana, strawberries etc.) with addition of green leaves (kale, spinach, lettuce etc.). Do it yourself. Without sugar of course. Keeps you not hungry and provides essential vitamins. There are books about this. Try to google recipies and experiences. You can take as much as you want but it is important to take it before lunch or dinner - not after! Best for breakfast and during the morning. I take fruits for breakfast and than smoothies.
