My mother and uncle both had pigeon chest; they had COPD and I have noticed that I am starting to get it.

Could my lung problem be the cause of this?

Hi Lynn,

It's always been my understanding that pigeon chest is congenital and sometimes caused by a back problem called scoliosis, but I could be wrong. Another cause of pigeon chest that isn't congenital is rickets, which is caused by certain deficiencies in the diet. The National Institutes of Health's MedlinePlus has an article here. It is definitely something I'd mention to your doctor, including your family history of pigeon chest and COPD.

Best wishes,
