Life expectancy, standardized mortality ratios and causes of death of six rheumatic diseases in Hong Kong, China. Patients with rheumatic diseases such as lupus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis have increased mortality and reduced life expectancy. Infection is the leading cause of death, followed by cardiovascular complications and malignancies. C. Mok, Arthritis & Rheumatism (PubMed) 2011 Mar 9. (Also see: Prognosis and Mortality)
