I've just been making myself some new clothes and while I was sorting through my stash, I had to move a piece of 'fleece'. I reached into my pocket to grab a tape measure and Eureka!! :emoticons-line-dance: Why not fleece lined pockets? There are lots of times when I can't or don't want to wear gloves, but need to warm up the fingers.

So, you don't sew? No problem! Nearly everywhere has a thrift shop and I'll bet every one of those has something made of fleece or a heavy flannel that has pockets. Why couldn't you just cut the pocket out of the other garment and put them into your pants pocket or coat pocket or wherever having warm pockets would be nice? I think I'd probably hand sew a few tacking stitches to hold them in place. Or safety pins, why not? What do you think??

Of course, now all I need to do is stopping hearing my mother and our Regimental Sergeant Major shouting at me to get my hands out of my pocket!

You're too funny! :VeryHappy:

Love your idea! This is my first summer with Raynaud's and I've been amazed at how many times I've needed to warm my hands! I'm dreading winter! Awesome idea!

I'm thinking that I'll be replacing all my gloves with mittens, and fleece-lining my pockets!!

Coo, Jeannie....what a very good idea!! :thank-you:

Actually I shan't need to go to a charity shop to get old fleeces; I must have half a dozen in my wardrobe sitting there unused! ;)

Warmer hands this winter...... here I come!! :you-rock:

:emoticons-group-hug: What a storming idea!! I certainly am going to buy or recycle some fleece material. I'll have very warm fingers this autumn winter.

Its surprising when doing a job a flash of genius arrives!!

I've developed a great affection for sweatshirts, preferably fleece, with pockets. I have bought some because I liked the color or needed it to go with something only to realize no pockets! From now on that will be something I check. I have a fairly big collection now, and they are great in all seasons, in the summer they can be used in air conditioning and brought into stores and restaurants. In colder weather they can be layered.

That's a great idea, Jeannie! :great:

Hi Jeannie,

Sewers unite! :emoticons-yes:

I also love to sew. The joke around here is that anything that sits still for more than five minutes is likely to get either painted or sewn. I sew nearly all my clothes now. This summer I got lazy though and bought a shirt that was fine except the sleeves were too long and there were no pockets. So I cut off the excess sleeves and used them to make lined pockets on the shirt.

I also have thermal insulation fabric, which is very nice to sandwich between fancy fabrics for very warm and cushioned pockets.

When I first started sewing I found pockets to be a bit hard to handle, so I eliminated them from my designs. I have really come to regret that, and now I find myself going back and adding pockets to older outfits. The nice thing about pockets is that they really don't have to match the original fabric, as they can count as a design extra when added later.

With Raynaud's it is a silly and very regrettable thing to be caught without pockets.

Two thumbs up for your fleece-lined pockets, Jeannie! Plus, I'd never thought of taking existing pockets from old or thrift store items -- that is pure genius!
