Jason Ford and Cari Mull have donated in loving lasting memory of Roger (Birdman) Ford. Many of us in Sclero Forums will recall that Roger passed away due to complications of a stem cell transplant for scleroderma. 01/05/12. (Also see: Sclero Shop/Donate)

This item was posted in the ISN Newsroom. Please check the newsroom daily for updates on scleroderma and other related articles.

Roger (Birdman) and Julie (Birdman's Wife) put up quite a fight to try to save his life with a stem cell transplant. Most unfortunately, he lost his life due to a post-transplant infection. Some of us here have benefited by a stem cell transplant (sometimes doing amazingly well), and others have been seriously impaired or died because of it.

What is especially heart-warming to me about this forum is that we all provide support for those who enjoy the success of cutting-edge treatments, and that we also provide sincere comfort and lasting remembrance for those who were injured or passed away due to them. Since there is no proven cure for scleroderma yet, it is inevitable that some of us will not succeed on even the best therapies available. They are those of us on the "front lines" so to speak. My hat goes off to everyone who has tried -- whether it was a medical success, or not. And especially to Birdman, and his family, who put up an enormously positive fight for survival.
Warm Hugs,

Margaret, Julie, didn't have scleroderma, Roger did and he died after a post stem cell transplant infection took hold.

Take care.
