Hi Everyone!!

I am posting this to get information and would REALLY appreciate your input, if you would....PLEASE!!

It has become necessary to find out the "Interest Level" of all of you, where the Hosted Chat Rooms (namely Tuesdays and Fridays, are concerned).

1) Are you able to get into the Chat Room(s) of choice, or are you having trouble?

2) Is there a BETTER time that might work BETTER for you? ( I ask this question because we like to accomodate you, whenever possible). There are folks who work, have families, other commitments, etc and the present Hosted Chat times may just not suit your particular schedule. When these particular Hosted Chat times where chosen, it was with the idea to accomodate time zones of members.

3) If you ARE interested in joining a Hosted Chat, but none of the times FIT... for you, please PLEASE respond, as we would LOVE to have you there! IF you are not comfortable posting (about this) on this thread, but want to let one of us know, it would be great if you message EITHER myself ( Debonair Susie) OR Jo; I host Tuesday and Friday Chats and Jo hosts Wednesday Chats.

4) I LOVE that Jo and I host these chats and we really DO enjoy meeting you and allowing you the opportunity to chat COMFORTABLY; that is what it's all about!

**HOWEVER...the option is STILL available for you to chat with another member WITHOUT a HOST too!! (The Chat Guidelines are the same, whether a HOSTED Chat, or not). We want you to feel at home in the Chat Rooms, as it's a wonderful place to get/share health information with each other! :emoticons-line-dance:

Okay!! Jo and I are looking forward to your posts, whether they be here OR to one/both of us! Please, share your thoughts with us!   :thank-you:

Here are my thoughts...

I think Susie and Jo have done, do and hopefully will continue to do a marvellous job hosting the chat sessions. I want to thank them for being there every time they say they will! Despite scleroderma and having lives outside of the ISN Jo and Susie reliably and enthusiastically host many chat sessions throughout the week so members can meet and talk in real time about anything, not just scleroderma.

If current times/days don't suit here's your chance to say what does!

And my thoughts are....we have the best chat hosts ever  :you-rock:  and they are always delighted to see old-timers and thrilled to meet newcomers!  So if you are thinking about joining a chat, why not do so right this week?  :terrific:

Also if you see a big warning sign saying that you are not Authorized to chat (or whatever) it means that you simply need to log in to the forums first, as only registered members are allowed to chat.  (Membership is FREE!)

Kudos to our chat hosts and chat participants alike for making a warm, cozy and even educational home for all those affected by scleroderma.  We all appreciate it!

As a member have a few thoughts that might help.

1)  I love the hosted chats!  The chats I attended were crucial for my well being while learning to cope with this disease.  Though I have not attended them in a few years due to my personal circumstances I still remember them dearly.

2)  I had great intentions to attend some chats the last few weeks and managed to miss every one during my waking hours.  This disease leaves me unreliable.

3) I found the current hosts engaging and they do a fantastic job in guiding the conversations, (as well as previous hosts).

4)  I have never seen an unkind word on all the chats I attended.  I have been to other unhosted chats with spammers, hackers, and cruel people but I have never seen that here.  It seems that all the members here are kind and either looking for support or willing to support one another :)

5)  Other members with myself utilized the chat room in the past for our own conversations that spanned 2 continents and those chats were also quite beneficial to all of us.

6)  I am not sure how this factors in.  Some of us cant type , or even type as fast as we used to.  We get behind in the chat conversation though we have important things to add or  to help, console of offer a tip.  By the time a sincere comment or helpful tip is typed and sent, the conversation has already moved on.  I do not have a solution for this as I can still type quickly for a few minutes at a time but I DID respond to those who took longer to get their message out though later than others.

Thank you for this site!

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

Thanks so much for your kind and useful input; I'm so pleased that you've enjoyed the chats and hope that you will be able to join us again.

To anyone who's worried about not being able to keep up with the typing required; trust me, no one could be a worse or slower typist than me!! ;)  (Even after 3000 plus posts, I still use one finger, or two for capitals!  )

We love to welcome all members and Susie and I are looking forward to having lots more interesting and entertaining discussions. :bye:

OH MY!!

Bless your hearts, both Amanda and Shelley, (Jo too) ! You ALL are VERY Special to me and are GREAT Role Models here, on the Forums :you-rock:

I thank you SO much for your complementary inputs!

Jo, for a "one-fingered typist", you put MY typing to SHAME :P lol (By the way, my Friend, I thank you SO much for joining Friday Chats, whenever you are able).

Now Kathy, I am REALLY appreciative of YOUR very valuable input, concerns and thoughts; this is EXACTLY what I was hoping for!!

I can appreciate how frustrating it can be, to feel left behind in the flow of conversation; We do NOT want any deterrents to prevent ANY of you from coming to the Chat Room...when ANY of you make/take the time to come to the Chat Room, our goal is to make it as comfortable as possible for members to chat about health issues...as we want you to come BACK and CHAT with us whenever it is possible (for you).

You raised a VERY important point, Kathy and I would like to speak to it, as well as other great points you made, if I may.

1) DO you have Finger Ulcers, Sensitive Fingertips, Fingers that lack mobility or some other reason that does not allow you to type as fast as you would like? Not to worry!! We have great empathy for whatever concerns you may have...after all, we are in the same boat, have been or WILL be and have NO speed records to break!

2) We want everyone to rest assured... the Forums/Chat Rooms are provided for a reason...to share concerns, experiences and hopefully, get feedback from others. If conversations start to get away, we just reel it back because we like for EVERYONE to chat! :emoticon-hug:

Give the Chat Rooms a try...You may be glad you DID ;)

We DO hope that you are able to join any/all Chats in the near future...it would be GREAT to have you back, Kathy!  ;)

Hi Jo,

I haven't responded to your request up until now because Chat is not really my thing!!

However, I suspect that the fact of the timing really makes a big difference for me.      I am rarely awake in the morning before 8.30 and not really social before about 10am unless it is imperative to be on deck.   We are 2 hours ahead of Melbourne so even then it is too early for me.

Hi Judy,

Thanks so much for your response. :)

I can understand how difficult the timing can be for you and our other members in New Zealand and Australia. Actually, I've never been able to join in Tuesday's chats as they're 2am in the morning in the UK and I'd have to be an insomniac to participate!! ;)

However, should anyone ever want to discuss anything with me, they can PM me for a time convenient to both of us and I can arrange to meet them in the chat room.

Just to let you know....

Twice a year (March & November), there are time changes that take place in the USA (except AZ) and the UK; unfortunately, the USA "springs forward" BEFORE the UK; this occurred the FIRST SUNDAY in March and the UK will do so the LAST  SUNDAY in March!

Then In NOVEMBER, the FIRST SUNDAY the USA "falls back" and the UK "falls back" the LAST SUNDAY IN OCTOBER.

The Hosted Chat Times posted below are for April through October; November through February.

                                                                                                        TUESDAY: 5 PM Pacific Time

                                                                                                                          6 PM Mountain Time

                                                                                                                          7 PM Central Time

                                                                                                                          8 PM Eastern Time

                                                                                                                          2 am UK (Wednesday)

                                                                                                                             7 PM UK

                                                                                                                             9 am (Thursday) Melbourne Australia

                                                                                                            FRIDAY:   8 am  Pacific Time

                                                                                                                             9 am Mountain Time

                                                                                                                           10 am Central Time

Hi Judy and thanks for posting.

I can appreciate where you are coming from; there are alot of folks who feel as you about chat not being something they desire to do.

However, for those of you who would LIKE to join in, it really helps to develop a one-on-one relationship with those who are there for the same reason!

(I've made some VERY special friends, as a result of participating in the Chat Room and I cherish them and thier friendships)! :emoticon-hug:

Hope your weekend is the best, Judy and all!

Jo, I'd like to add that I have joined, chatted and benefited from many chats in other countries and time zones.  Other continents in fact!  The conversations are still so helpful even though they are an ocean away from me.  I can never stay awake late enough for the big chat but I have gained priceless guidance & information by joining other chats that fit my waking schedule.

Judyt, I too have made some very valuable relationships that I still talk with to this day!  This is a huge point as scleroderma is so hard for most people to relate to yet we can relate to each other.

I have enjoyed the chats I have participated in as they have allowed me to know other forum members more intimately than just through their scleroderma issues. It is like talking with friends you have something in common with and catching up on their lives. Many times the conversation gets ahead of me...but when I post my thought the conversation will return.

One suggestion I would like to make is to post the chat the day before it is occurring as well as the day of. Many times I get on the forum, read the heading bar, and realize I missed the chat by a little while. Or perhaps have a second bar that states chats are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays as a reminder for all of us suffering from brain fog.

I also had trouble getting in the chat room because of my Java settings. I was able to go to a previous post on trouble getting into the chat room and found that I had to lower my security to get in. I then received all kinds of warnings but went through them anyway and then reset my Java when the chat was over. I hope this doesn't discourage others.

Thank you to the chat moderators for making sure they are there for all of us.

miocean

Hi Miocean,

Thanks so much for your input and ideas.

I'm afraid Java has been a bit of a bugbear, but as you found out, it is possible to overcome it's shortcomings by playing around with the security settings and then resetting them again afterwards. I'm glad the instructions were helpful.

I'll try and include a reminder about the hosted chats the day before they occur.
