Hi All,

I thought I'd let you all know about an exciting new venture on Sclero Forums.

We're proposing to introduce support chats via Skype. For those of you who don't know anything about Skype, I've included a link to give you some more information. It is free to join and you only need to download Skype onto your computer, set up a free account and away you go!!

We're intending to have the first Skype chat on September 2nd and the Skype chats will be held once a month on Wednesdays:

UK time 7.30pm,
US Eastern time 2.30pm
US Central time 1.30pm
US Mountain time, 12.30pm
US Pacific time 11.30am
Australia time 4.00am
New Zealand time 7.30am

If we do get a lot of people who would like to participate, then it may be possible to set up additional times.

It will be open to any of our members who would like to participate; each session will be for an hour with a prearranged topic, to help anyone with that particular issue. So that everyone gets a fair chance to join in the discussion, there will only be a maximum of five people at each chat.

If you're interested and would like to join the chats, please PM me. In order to participate, it will be necessary to give me your Skype contact details; you will have to accept me as a contact and make sure that you are online at the time of the chat. These chats will be confidential and will follow our guidelines; also we do request that in order to protect our members' medical and personal privacy, no recording or posting on social media will be allowed.

I'm hoping that you will find this idea appealing, with the added bonus of meeting other members, including Yours Truly in the flesh!

Thank you for posting this, Jo!

I am very excited about our Skype chats and look forward to being able to meet a lot of our members this way.

If you are someone who has never Skyped before, no worries. I hadn't done it myself until a few months ago. But it is very easy to do, simply downloading a free program, and the connections are free as well.  Don't be put off by any mentions of "paying" for things with Skype; I know I worried when I first saw references to that, and I was worried that there might be connection charges for skyping people overseas. But there aren't!

I want to thank Jo and Amanda for bringing up the subject of Skype and educating me about it. It is a wonderful innovation for our chats, bringing them to a whole new level!

Do you like to Skype? If so, please feel free to talk about it in this thread, and perhaps explain a bit more to newbies how it works.

I do think this is a great idea because you get to see each other and we become 'real' people rather than just a name.

Skype is a great tool to keep in touch with friends and families especially those who live a great distance from and of course is free when using computer to computer. I have been using this method of contact for 10 years and even my uncle who is 89 uses Skype so we can keep in touch and get to see each other!

Hi Kathy,

To be totally honest I've never actually tried a group Skype by text; having said that, I think it would be possible for you to participate by text if you would prefer that, as there is a text facility which Shelley and I have used during a Skype session, so theoretically it should work. However, I would need to have your Skype contact details, in order that you could join the chat.

It's also possible for you to turn off the video camera during Skype so that you could join in the chat session just using audio, if you would prefer that.

I would emphasise to any of our members who are contemplating joining the Skype support chats, but are worried about their online anonymity, that their contact details would only be given to me. It's not possible to join in a Skype chat without being accepted as a contact by both parties and it's also possible to block any unwanted contacts.
