Disability From Insurance Company

To all that are on disability and are being paid by your insurance company, not social security, are you being taxed on your income? It does not seem right that we are taxed on this.

Jennifer,
I was paid a little bit each month from Hartford Disability and that lasted for two years. That money isn't taxable. The reason I was given so little by Hartford is because I was on Social Security disability and disability retirement from the state.

I just found out information on taxable disability. If the employer pays the premium for the long term disability insurance, then the income is taxable. If the employee pays the premium for the long term disability insurance then it is NOT taxable.
