What do you do when you have a tooth that won't heal? I had a root canal and crown about a year ago on a molar. I went back 6 months later and had no idea the tooth had not healed. I had to take a round of antibiotics. It felt normal until a week ago and now it hurts to touch and I can feel a lump on my gum under the skin. It is so annoying. I feel that it is not healing due to being on Cellcept AND the fact that I have Scleroderma.
I have an appointment tomorrow. I know it's infected and I am worried because it's been so long! I guess I'll be going off Cellcept for another ten days, although I don't really see the point in that because it's not like my immune system is going to bounce back the day I go off.

Has anyone else had a problem with a tooth not healing?

Hi Jen,

I am so sorry you are still having problems with this tooth. I haven't had any dental problems since I was 9 years old, so can't help you with personal experience. Please let us know what happens at the appointment tomorrow.
Warm and gentle hugs,

I have always wondered that too - about having to go off Cellcept for awhile to treat an infection...Like how long does it take before our immune systems bounce back and can you just quit cold turkey with no ill effects or should you wean off like you weaned on? And when you go back on do you have to wean back on again or does it depend on how long you were off it?

Just full of questions sometimes....

I have not had any problems like you're having so I am no help. I hope you heal up soon!

(There are little gnats buzzing my screen, as it is the only light on in the house - very annoying!)

Good night,

Hi Barefut,
My doctors nurse said not to go off Cellcept this time, but that other stronger immunosuppressants they do want you to go off of while on antibiotics. In the past though, the same Dr. has had me go off Cellcept for a round of antibiotics.
Not sure of the logics but it makes sense I guess.
I did have to start back on 2 grams instead of 3 grams when I went back on them.
I am sure I'll survive this tooth ordeal :) It's nothing in the big scheme of things.
