If you have GERD, and a hiatial hernia in particular, are you supposed to have routine endoscopies, meaning, annually? I don't want to miss anything. I have that constant sore throat so just wondering if I should.

I have my first mammogram today....yay! At least it's a digital mammogram.

Hi Jen,
I am not sure if it is a routine thing to have an endoscopy if you have GERD and H. Hernia. I have one also with esophogeitits and my doctor never mentioned that we would check on it. Maybe someone else has more info on this.

Good luck with the mammogram!

Hi Jen,
My gastro doctor said as long as I am not having any major issues or severe changes in reflux or vocal pain I am good for 3 to 5 years. So, I guess since I have to have the Colonoscopy every 5 years then I will just get them at the same time. Hopefully, I won't have any major changes. We live in hope don't we? We hope this doesn't happen or that doesn't happen.

I meant to say before, I didn't get a Digital Mamogram this year with all the other medical expenses that I have had. So, I don't know if I would have had the type you had. I hate getting squished. I usually go for the ultra sound instead. Or at least get that every other year. I have had too many cysts removed and the mamos are painful. Sheryl

Jen dear,
I would think a yearly visit to your gastro doctor to see if you need an endoscopy.

Hi Jen, I was wondering the same thing. I also have GERD and Hiatus Hernia but only officially diagnosed with that in April, so don't know if next time am due for the full range of tests (PFTS, Echo etc,) whether they will add in endoscopy. If I remember I will ask what the recommendations are when I see next see them.

I have both as well but I haven't had a endoscopy since October 2003. Like Sheryl, my rheumatologist said that there is no reason if I'm not having problems that can't be controlled with heartburn meds, eating habits and lifestyle. I'm always happy NOT to have one more test.

Big Hugs,
