Upper Abdominal Pains
Posted 21 October 2007 - 07:36 AM
I've been having some sharp upper abdominal pains and continuing IBS even with probiotics. I guess its probably time I at least call my gastro.
My uper GI study back in April was good. Could anything change that much in 6 months?
Anybody else have the same pains? I did once have a BM that looked like coffee grounds but have not worried too much about it since it was just once. I have no weight loss.
What are your thoughts?

I've been told that "coffee grounds" looking BM equals blood in the stool. I wouldn't mess around with this, or ignore it. See your doctor and get checked! Even if it was ONLY once.
That's an order!!!
Did I scare ya' yet? Seriousl, though, better safe than sorry.
Warm and Happy to you! Vee

When I had my major GI bleed I have coffee grounds. Have you had black stools too? You should call your GI and get a stool sample to him. I would also get a hemoglobin check.

I have something kind of like that going on and have, for quite some time. On Wednesday PM, I'm scheduled for an abdominal ultrasound... I don't know what it could even show. Anyone else have one of these done?
(BTW, right after the AB US, I'm sceduled for a thyroid fine needle aspiration).

I can't remember if you said that you had past liver issues, or anemia. These things should be watched closely especially if you have those kinds of BM's. I am so glad that your doctor called you in for a closer look!

Hubby and I went to breakfast this morning with a couple we are good friends with.
She asked if I was nervous about tomorrow's tests. I let her know I've learned that it's not good to use up good energy unless it's necessary, as it only makes me tired!
Thank you, thank you, Dear Sheryl!

I believe the BM movements she is experiencing is that if diarrhea which is somewhat disconcerting when it happens in itself.
I get IBS so bad, I missed a lot of work. With all my medication, I am not supposed to take OTCs for it, but in a pinch and not to miss another day of work, I do take an otc antidiarrheal medication (only half the dose recommended). Works like a charm and I haven't seen any side effects. Do not take the full dose or more than recommended, or you'll run into the next problem in that you will not be able to have any BM.
Learned the hard way......
It is what it is...........

The young ladies who got me ready for the thyroid fine needle aspiration were great, as was the dr who perfermed the aspiration. It all went without a hitch... they wished me the best with the thyroid. The best news was that I was outta there by 1:20PM... I'm so glad I was able to get done with each appointment early.
Hubby and I were so hungry by the time we got done, that we went and got a bite to eat. The way I ate, one would have thought I hadn't eaten in a week! The effect it has on me when I have to fast.
It ws a beautiful day here today, so I'm happy were were able to get out and enjoy it.
Sheryl and Barefut... thank you to you both. I am scheduled to see my internist November 1st... I'll keep you posted on the results!

Yup, it usually translates into tests, but if the reason(s) for your pain is discovered, it makes it a bit more bearable for you , I hope... I'm anxiously waiting for your ultimate results and keeping you in my thoughts these next several days.
Hugs to you, susie
