Hi, Everyone ,

Well, Gareth finished up the 10 days of antibiotics on Sunday and I had him
back in today for the second round. They took X-rays on Monday
and said they looked good. He spiked a fever last night and by today
was hacking and 100 degree fever all day. They ordered a CT scan this
afternoon and want another one in 2 weeks to make sure it is pneumonia
and not ILD. I talked to the Radiologist and told her about his diagnosis of Sclero/UCDT
and she *thinks* the lung changes are all pneumonia related. He got put on a
different antibiotic and will have to go back in tomorrow. If the temp is still up, it's a shot of antibiotics and sent home OR in the hospital for IV antibiotics. We will learn more tomorrow.

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret, I hope Gareth is starting to feel a bit better. This disease has been picking on him for quite awhile. He is due a break. Hopefully, it will be soon. If not remission, at least a big break from all the action. I hope each day he gets better. May you have a warm and comfortable holiday. May your New Year come in peacefully. Sheryl

Hi Everyone,

Gareth's primary care physician called today and decided to put Gareth on Prednisone....starting at 60 mg and tapering down over the next 15 days. I said "No....I don't think so. It's suppose to be so bad for Sclero pts and he's already postive for that Anti-RNA Polymerase 1/111" Well.......he talked to me about the damage that could happen if we don't be more aggressive with the lung inflammation. Sooooooooo, Gareth is on his first session of Prednisone and, hopefully, we will be able to get this pneumonia under control. I REALLY do not want him in the hospital for holiday.
Take care, Everyone.

Hi, Everyone ,

Oh, my.......I can not believe the difference from last night to this morning with the Prednisone!!! All day yesterday, Gareth sounded like he was drowning in phelm (sp). He got up this morning and said "all gone, Mom." So, now we taper down from 60 mg over the next 15 days.

Take care, Everyone.

Hi Margaret,

I hope prednisone takes care of inflammation and I hope it is not ILD.
Happy holidays to you and Gareth.
Kind regards,

Kamlesh

Hi Margaret,

No doubt you have to keep track of Gareth with the sclero, but it was odd that the hacking during a bout of pneumonia in April started after the antibiotics. Until then, there was serious pain under my left shoulder blade, but no coughing or lung pain. The doctor told me that pneumonia can upper cause back pain, so if he has that, it most likely is pneumonia. Also, what he coughs up may look horrible (brown with some blood), but at least he might be able to get some of that out now. Best to you!

Sincerely,
Elehos
