I am so frustrated. I got my barrium swallow test results back. Nothng significant but a haital hernia which I already knew about. The reason I went to the GI is because it hurts when I breathe. Yes, when I breathe. It's not a chest pain...it's more like an esophagus hurt. Hard to describe. If I take deep breaths I cough.
This has been going on for almost a year. My rheumatologist thought it was my esophagus causing the breathing pain but my GI dr. now thinks it must be pulmonary, although he thought it was asthma, and I have a restrictive lung disease, not obstructive.

So, does anyone have any idea what this could be? I started having squeaking in my ears when I blow my nose. Other than that, I feel fine. No fever, no productive cough.

Hey Jen:

I get the squeaking in my ears sometimes too. Just be sure to keep your mouth open when blowing your nose.

Bottom line is we all know our bodies. It this test didn't product the results for your present symptom, push the doctor to suggest other tests, or doctors for results.

If I don't speak to you before than, best of holidays to you, your family and those cutie pie kiddies of yours :D .

It is what it is...........

Hey Darlin'
Sorry that the test didn't identify what could be causing your breathing problems and pain, but glad that the tests didn't show anything problems- a little good with the bad I guess.

Sometimes I will swallow air and it gets stuck in my esophagus. Boy does that hurt! It doesn't happen often, but I hate when it happens. Do you think that could be happening to you. As far as coughing when you breath in deep that is something that happens to me all the time Basically, I can't breathe through my mouth which makes pft tests almost impossible to do. I've always attributed to my lung problems. Unfortunately none of the doctors can explain it. Go figure!

I agree with Tru - just stay on top of it until you get some answers and the pain goes away.

Best wishes to you and your darling family,

I'm sorry to hear you don't have the answers you need. You know that I too have asthma and ILD. Maybe you could try an ear-nose-throat doctor or an asthma doctor? If anything you could goto them to rule it out.

Hello my friend ~

I am so sorry. Boy this has really been getting you lately. If it were me, I would see the pulm. doctor. Maybe something new is going on there, like asthma.

Hoping this post is finding you a bit better.

HI Jen,
It is so hard when you know something isn't right but the tests don't show it yet. This happens to me all the time. Fortunately my doctor know that I will feel symptoms but it can take 6 months to a year before my tests show anything. Hang in there and make sure you call your pulmonary doctor.

Hi Jennifer,

Are you having esophageal spasm? I was rushed to ER one day due to esophageal spasm and now my doctor has prescribed Hyoscyamine .125mg tablets to relax my esophagus.

I also went over barium swallow test last week, but would not know the results for couple of weeks.
Kind regards,
