My dear husband is on Pariet for reflux, and it works very well for him.
No side effects to report, seems like a mild way to eliminate a symptom, good luck!!! :)

Celia, were you taking the 20 or 40 mg Nexium? You can take up to 4 Nexium 40mg daily for severe GERD with a doctors prescription. You can also take Reglan with Nexium for added relief. Pariet is quite mild compared to Nexium. Pariet comes in 10 and 20 mg. When I was looking it up it gave information on Canada and Australia. I am not sure if we use that one in the States. Make sure you find something that getsyour acid reflux in control. Where if isn't bothering you as much. You want your esophagus to heal and stay healed or the acids in the stomach to stay controlled so as they don't bother the esophagus. If you are still bothered then you might ask to have your dosages increased. It can take some time to control reflux situations. I was on maximum doses for almost 2 years. Now, I can get by with twice daily most days of the 40 mg Nexium. Let us know what you think about the Pariet comparing it to the Nexium that you took after a few months.

Hi Sheryl,
I was taking 40mg Nexium in the evening for reflux. My Gastro only prescribed 20mg Pariet for me to take, I did ask whether this was enough and she said yes.
When my reflux was getting really bad in the beginning I used to take 80mg Nexium in one go.

Sheryl, was it you that has Celiac Disease?. I am also being tested for this and am due to have a Gastrocopy in a few weeks time?. Regarding the Gastroscopy, Would they be able to tell if I am aspirating acid into my lungs?

Take care
Celia

Celia, I have gastroparesis. I have never been tested for Celiac disease. I have had milk allergies in the past but milk doesn’t seem to bother me now. Aspirating into the lung can be seen through the camera in most cases. Severe GERD can be seen or I should say the erosion from acid reflux. Muscle weakness, ulcers or gastritis sores are very clear. In my copy of the endoscopy that I had done it showed these clear little bubbles up and down my esophagus. It is amazing what you will see from your scope. Have your doctor explain all this before you leave the hospital if possible. My doctor handed me pictures and explained everything in detail. Good luck with your tests. Please tell us your results. If you are still have acid reflux pain though until then mark down times of day it is the worst and what you ate that day. Mine wasn’t just at night. I had or have it all the time. I have learned what things really bother me to eat. I stay away from them. I use to just pop my pill and wait then eat whatever I wanted. My little purple pill would take care of me. Now, I take care and watch what I eat at all times. The pill is just in case I need assistance in the blockage of acids.
Strength and Warmth,
Sheryl
