After talking it over with my husband and my doctor and thinking about it and after ruling out all the other alternatives, I have decided that I will bite the bullet and allow the doctor to inject my sphincter between my stomach and small intestine with Botox 5 times with a small needle that is introduced at the end of an endoscope. I will be put under with the same drugs that are used with any other endoscopic procedure (I slept through my last one) and will probably not know what is going on for the rest of the day. I have already requested sorbet as my food of choice tomorrow when I am ready to eat. I feel like a pioneer.

If this procedure does what it is supposed to do, I will not be nauseous all the time and will no longer have bouts of intense gagging and/or vomiting. My gastro paresis will be under control and I will have fewer sleepless nights where I am in terrible pain, So I am looking forward to the procedure and a nice morning nap. If this procedure works it will mean that I will have to do it again on a regular basis after seeing how long the effect of the shots last. I can certainly live with having to renew and get shot again.

See you when I have an unwrinkled sphincter!

Hello Smurfette,

I hope everything goes/went well for you. I hope you let us know how this procedure works for you. I know someone whose doctor suggested this for her. I told her of this thread and I hope she will chime in soon. She is really scared and I think it will do her good to share with someone who experienced the same thing. Thank you for sharing.

Smurfette,

How did your botox injections feel? Is it going to work right away?
I sure hope you get some relief.

I'm Baaaccckkkk! It will take a while before I know if it did anything to help the situation, but the procedure went "well" according to my doctor and there was not enough botox left over to do any lines on my forehead. So far that is my only major complaint - other than the headache from the anaethesia. My husband did get me some wonderful sorbetto and I have been eating lightly. I will drink an apple-tini on Friday to celebrate and that will be the big test!

Clementine, white gloves, Sheryl, Sweet, Peggy, Cheryle, Vee and Margaret thank you for your kind wishes! It is so nice of you to care! I love having your support. I will let you know what happens!

So I thought that it would take a while for the Botox to loosen up the sphincter and I was prepared for that, but I started having stomach aches the day of the procedure. I called the doctor and discovered that the Botox could take up to two weeks to work. I was also advised that I could have a flare up for about a week. Well, I am true to form, I am having a flare and the Botox is slowly working its way in, because I can't quite feel anything yet.

I guess as the test case for the forum I am experiencing the entire gamut of symptoms. If anyone else has the procedure I will be able to tell them everything about it.

I could use some of that Botox on my stomach! You are the first one that I know of to have this procedure done. Can't wait to hear how it works for you. I'm glad to hear the procedure went well!
