Hi does any one have trouble breathing if you eat anything too Salty? this keeps happening to me totally takes my breath away. we have had to get Ambulance out and go on oxygen and been taken in to A and E last night, I just opened a packet of ham last night and started having breathing problems. thankfully a paper bag helped. I also every now and then take sharp involuntary intakes of breath again if I am not careful can start my breathing off -- any input, suggestions most welcome. Lynn

I'm not sure how this relates to what you are experiencing, but if I eat too much salt and get the slightest bit dehydrated, I feel like I can't breathe. My sinuses seem to just close up. I have to get up and drink a huge glass of water fast, and then it seems to clear up after a while. It is a terrible feeling. I feel like I've had a plastic bag put over my head and I sometimes start to panic, and of course, that makes it worse.

Wow very strange! I honestly have not heard of that, and can't for the life of me think what a plausible connection would be..... Is this a new thing for you, or have you always had this problem? Could you possibly be allergic to salt? I've never heard of that either....

I'm not much help, I hope someone else can shed some intelligent information on this post.

Is it possible that there is something else that you are allergic to -- ham is full of preservatives and many other products contain preservatives such as sulfides which are now listed on labels. Some people are allergic to iodine which is in iodized salt and some shellfish. I would definitely talk to an allergist or some other specialist about this. A paper bag would work for an anxiety attack, but if you are needing oxygen, then the paper bag could make it worse. I suspect that stressing about this isn't helping very much. Do let us know what you find out.

When I eat anything salty I cough uncontrollably. I always have. But I never felt like I couldn't breathe. I sure hope you find out what it is, there is salt everywhere!
