Hi, everyone. Today I registered in Sclero Forums. I was diagnosed with scleroderma in 1998 and have been struggling physically and emotionally ever since. My contact with other patients is very limited so I was glad when I saw the website. Now I know I have a place to go to talk to or listen to others who are just like me. Right now I am having a real problem with a digital ulcer on the index finger of my right hand and have an appointment next week with a dermatologist to see what can be done. If anyone has been through digital ulcers, I would love to hear from you.

Hi Cathy,

I actually just joined this forum yesterday :)

I have had my fair share of digital ulcers. When I was diagnosed with Raynaud's 1.5 years ago, I had digital ulcers on the tips of 6 of my fingers. They were so terribly painful. They were puss-filled and the worst the doctor had ever seen. I almost lost 1 of my fingers.

I smoked alot of cigarette's at the time and the doctor said if I didn't stop I would lose my fingers.

I was put on Trental and Procardia and eventually the dig. ulcer's went away.

BUT, I still occasionally get them. Right now, I actually have one on the knuckle in the bend of my pinky.

I'm not sure what causes them. I would like to know what you find out at your appt.

Hugs,
Sakar

Hi Cathy,

Welcome to the forums! I am glad you found us and have joined us in posting messages. I see that Lisa has given you a great link to get some information on ulcers. I know that several members here have had great sucess in preventing ulcers with Viagra or Cialis. It might be worth mentioning to your doctor. I do hope you can get some relief soon.

Warm wishes,
Heidi

Cathy,
Welcome! You found a great place as you already know. It's a great place for information as well as that emotional support that we all need at times. I hope you find some ideas on the page Lisa provided. There's been some great success with several drugs now-a-days. You might print some of these studies out and take them to your dermatologist. Are you seeing a rheumatologist as well?

Please let us know what works for you on that ulcer.

Hi Cathy,

I'm glad to see you're here, too :D ! It is really a great comfort when one feels the support there is here.
I hope you don't suffer with the ulcer(s) much longer... Having read here the different experiences those who get them have, I'm sure they'll be able to offer up what has helped them too.

Hugs,
Susie

Hi Cathy,

I just posted some pictures to my album that shows how bad digital ulcers were when I was first diagnosed with Raynaud's.

I'm not sure how you access my album but I posted the pictures for the public to view.

I'm just curious how badly your's are? I know they sure are painful and I hope you get some relief soon!!

Take care,
Sakar
