Gastro-Esophageal Reflux and Pulmonary Fibrosis (ILD) in Scleroderma (SSc): A Study Using pH-Impedance Monitoring. SSc patients with ILD have more severe reflux I.e. more reflux episodes and more reflux reaching the proximal esophagus. Savarino E. (PubMed) Am J Respir Crit Care Med. 2008 Dec 18. (Also see: GERD and Pulmonary Fibrosis)

Replying to my own posting?! No, I'm not developing a split personality.

I just wanted to say my own experience bears out this study. I absolutely did not believe my GERD was as severe as it was (although it was certainly a real pain in the, uh, esophagus) until they did the 24-hr pH impedance study. The results of the study and the HRCT not only helped with the diagnosis of sclero, more importantly, they also helped determine my treatment.

If anyone is avoiding having the 24-hr study done because it's definitely no fun, I'd advise them to be brave. :D
