Over the past week, I have been experiencing quite a bit of cramping in my neck. It started on the right and now it has gone to the right side too. It feels like a crook in the neck, but a lot stronger and lasts a lot longer. Stretching the neck out doesn't help. A few times I felt the muscle contracting and it is so painful! I will make an appointment with the doctor on Monday but am wondering if anyone else has had this experience or has any suggestions to relieve it.
I may have Scleroderma, but Scleroderma doesn't have me!

Hi smac,

Necks pains can be awful. Mine are usually from sleeping wrong and can take a long time to work out. There are some medications that can cause that type of muscle spasm too. I am sorry you are in pain and am glad you are calling the doctor on Monday. Can't say what might help. Have you tried acetaminophen or something like it? Will keep you in my thoughts. Hope you feel better soon smac.

With gentle thoughts,

Judy

I started having the same thing in November. It feels like a spasm and my tongue it affected too. It hurts pretty bad. It lasts about 30 seconds but still hurts afterward like a sore neck. I saw my Gastro doctor last week and he used to help run the Scleroderma clinic at UCLA. He said my esophagus may need stretched (sounds painful but he says its not). If you see a gastro doctor he would probably be the one to talk to about this.

akchrist,

Hadn't thought about it being a gastro issue. I had an appt to see my gastro last week, but had a terrible cold that knocked me off my feet (literally) for a week and I wasn't able to make it. I'll mention it when I reschedule next week. Hopefully I can get rescheduled before Spring!

Judy,

Thanks for the thoughts. I have not been taking pain meds. I'm on so many meds these days that I try not to take it unless I absolutely have to. The pain lasts longer than a crook in the neck, but usually not more than 5-10 minutes. It feels like a cramp that won't release no matter how much you stretch the muscle. I haven't slept well for a couple of weeks so I may be sleeping in a weird way and unaware of it.

I have an appointment with my primary on Friday, but can't get in with the gastroenterologist until mid-February. In the meantime I've been eating bananas and trying heat and it seems to be helping.

Thanks Judy!

Hi Smac,

Sorry about your pain, I must be having sympathy pains, as I woke up with severe neck spasms. I finally broke down and took a muscle relaxer....

Hope yours is getting better!

Hi Shelley,

It has gotten better, but I don't know what to attribue it to. Although as I think about it I usually sleep elevated on a back rest and with a neck pillow. I haven't slept with the back rest for a few days. Maybe I was getting in a funky position through the night. I'll try to sleep without it in hopes that it doesn't affect the GERD.

The visit to the primary was a disaster and I didn't even get the visit. I really like my primary, but her patient panel is just too big and she also shares her office with another physician group. It was standing room only and a 2 hr wait according to the patients who were in the office when I got there. I was just in her office the week before for a cold and was there 2 1/2 hours. The only reason I stayed then was because I knew I needed to be seen. I really hate to change, but my time is just as valuable as hers and I can't afford to spend the day in the office.

It's always something isn't it????

Sweet & Deb,

Thanks for the well wishes!!

smac,

Glad to hear you are feeling better. If we wait long enough things will sometimes work out which is much nicer than digging in. Sorry about the office appointment and I understand how you feel. Giving up a day for an office visit is not OK. Wow she is really busy. Take care smac and keep us posted.
