Hi, Everyone ,

Gareth was admitted to the local hospital Sunday night with another bout of bilateral pneumonia. Just like in Dec/Jan, he had no cold, no cough, no fever....no nothing....straight to pneumonia again. The ER doctor wasn't going to "mess around" considering his history and plopped him right into the hospital!!! He's been on two, strong IV antibiotics and one oral antibiotic since.......guess they figure they will cover as much of the bacteria spectrum as they can!!! His X-rays yesterday showed no change....either for the good or worse. That is suppose to be a good sign, I was told. Today, he's complaining that the arm with the IV in hurts and the nurse said that is from all the antibiotics going through that vein. I hope she is right about that. Of course, they are all baffled about the pneumonia and wondering the cause. It is NOT influenza A or B....that's good. Please keep him in your daily thoughts that he will be out of here soon.

Take care, Everyone.

Hi Margaret,

I'm sorry Gareth is in the hospital with pneumonia again. Please give him an extra warm hug from me!

Gene was hospitalized for pneumonia a few weeks ago. He had so much fun there, he didn't want to leave. He loved the part about how he got to circle any/all the items from his menu. The day I brought him home, I had homemade chicken soup in the crockpot. Well, harrumph, he joked, at the hospital they were going to serve him RIBS if he could only stay awhile longer! They spoiled him rotten, I tell you.

So, here's hoping Gareth won't get home and demand to see the next day's menu for him to circle or expect room service to change his bedding every day! ;)

Shelley ,
Gareth has always enjoyed being in the hospital.....it's the only place where he can sleep, eat, and watch TV in bed!!! I thought he would be home today, but when I went in this morning, I found his hand/arm that had the IV in had swollen to the size of a small cow's udder!!! "Mom, look, arm hurts." I went to the nursing station and TRIED to be polite and calm --- "Uh....hasn't anyone noticed Gareth's hand throughout the night/morning?" Nooooooooooo!!! Seems the IV slipped and all his antibiotics were going under his skin. Tomorrow, they want to do a swallowing test since he hasn't had one done in almost 3 years and the ER doctor said she thought the pneumo was aspiration pneumonia.
Take care and thanks to all who keep him in their daily thoughts.

Margaret,
I'm so sorry to read about the problem Garath is having. Both of you are definitely in my thoughts. Worrying about him is enough, but having to make the hospital staff do their jobs is quite frustrating. Hang in there girl! Sounds like the doctors are at least on top of it.

Big Hugs to both of you,

Hi Everyone,

Gareth came home today. He's still showing signs of pneumonia on the X-rays but no *clinical* symptoms. He's got his script for 10 days of antibiotics and we will get another chest X-ray next Friday. We got out before getting the results of the Swallowing study....will get that from the primary care physician next Friday, too. Thank you for all who kept him in their daily thoughts.

Take care, Everyone.
