Hi:

I was wondering if everyone with gastroparesis experience loss of weight. I have read about this condition because of all the belly problems I am having. I have all the symptoms except for the loss of weight. Anyone in similar situation?

Hi Ani...I have Gastroparesis and cannot eat much of anything (about 5 different foods including liquids) and have not lost weight. In fact, I actually gained weight since this journey started about 5 years ago which is hard to believe. I'm on Prednisone (10 mg) which they say contributes to weight gain. I was actually diagnosed with Gastroparesis in 2007. Hope that helps.

Hello Ani

Have a look at the information we have on site about gastroparesis which includes the personal stories of others experiencing it. I do hope this helps.

Take care.

I have problems several times yearly with gastroparesis. Usually, I am able to keep my systems in check but not always does my body do as I wish it to. I have not had weight loss due to the paresis. For me that would be a good thing. I gained with this disease but am steadily slowly loosing a few pounds every couple months.

I have been slowly loosing weight, about a pound a month. While I was not really overweight I was right up there so the first 30lbs were welcomed as I was loosing so slowly. I hear loosing slowly is the best way. Now I am underweight and are trying to find why. I am diabetic and almost all the foods I can handle are on the diabetic no-no diet. So far I have been able to keep my sugar under control. The things I eat are mostly the foods that they say makes diabetic gain weight. It could be that I just don't eat enough because of the gastroparesis.

Hi,

I have gasteoparises a few times a year with flareups. I up my motility medication when that happens. I usually lose weight but quickly gain when appetite comes back. I am so glad mine comes only once in awhile. It is not fun to deal with. Sorry you are dealing with it now. Sometimes I would feel if I jumped up and down maybe the food would go down a little. I JUST CAN"T JUMP!! HA! Ha!

Hi:

Thanks to all for the replies. I am going to have to talk to the doctor about this. I don't understand why I have gained weight since I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I am still not overweight but I am on my way.
