Gwinetta, welcome to our ISN forum. Some of us lose a bunch of weight with this disease, while some of us gain a lot of weight. We really don't have a magic diet to help ourselves. If we have severe problems with acid reflux then we stay away from spicy foods or things that bother our reflux. If we have bowel issues there are certain things we need to stay away from. I also found out I was diabetic so the weight was packing on me for no apparent reason to me at the time.
Just eating a healthy diet throwing in the fruits and vegetables will help. Cooking with oils and products that are good for us is a great start. The best way to decrease weight that I have found is to exercise and walk and keep those snacks and chips at the grocery store instead of in our cupboards. With all the medication it might take much longer to loose a few pounds. My weight has been slowly melting away, but only a pound or so a month but I look different and feel different as my stomach shrinks and my legs slim down and my face thins. Very suttle differences at first but just keep plugging away and one day you will look in the mirror and say wow it looks like I have lost 20 pounds when really I have only lost 10 pounds.
Strength and Warmth,
Sheryl

Hi Gwen & Sheryl
Firstly, Sheryl could you have anything more thrown into the Mix- Diabetes! What you don't have enough on your plate? gheez... I Like you, and you Great Spirit Sheryl- you are my inspiation Blue eyes!

Hi Gwen!
I see you have met Sheryl, she will help you any way she can, she has been around the block more than once, and she has made me feel better about confusing things that get thrown at me, just wish we lived closer, oh well for now she is my Puter Pal. As for the Weight thingy, I gained & gained up to 200 Whopping pounds, then one of the many unexpected things happened, Started losing and not trying now I think I have settled at 174 :emoticons-yes: . The doctor told me it could be a medication change or a combination of meds, try not to worry , as long as you know you are eating right, feel confident (even though we don't like it) Don't let it become a stress  , thats not good! The days you have energy, try to get out for a nice walk or Bike ride have an incentive , Mine is to head some where for a cup of tea before heading back home.
Anyway Gwen, keep in touch, Nice meeting you!
Sandra

Thank you for the compliments Sandra. I do try my best to help people feel comfortable and at home when they come on ISN forums. We are computer mates aren't we Sandra. We are on usually about the same time each day. Oh, my eyes are green with just a touch of gold not really hazel colored eyes because of all the amount of green. Most of my siblings have blue eyes after our maternal grandparents.
Gwen if you have any symptoms you wish to discuss feel free to talk and others will jump in to the rescue, if possible. I am off to fix a well balanced breakfast. I'll be around later.
Strength and Warmth,
Sheryl

Hello Gwinetta

Welcome to the forum, you are in the best place for all things scleroderma.

Weight can be a tricky issue and one I am contending with at present. At the beginning of my scleroderma journey I went down 3 dress sizes and now that I'm into year two I have gained those 3 sizes plus a bit more back. I have started changing my eating habits rather than dieting and so far so good. I actually don't eat a great deal the issue for me is the lack of activity and as I can't exercise vigourously enough to loose weight I have to change what I eat. Snacks are out and vegetables are in. I am watching calorie content and how much of the carbohydrate content is sugar and it's working so far. What I have not done is deny myself food I have just changed what I eat for the better.

I did hit a snag though by increasing my fibre intake, without thinking about it and my poor bowels have not been happy for days.

As Sheryl has said there is no one plan that works for all it's a case of finding what works for you. It might be worthwhile seeing what your doctor advises to avoid any snags yourself.

Take care and keep posting.
