Title

Publications Manager

Status

Position Summary

To develop and manage a virtual volunteer team of editors, desktop publishers and writers in creating external and internal publications for the nonprofit International Scleroderma Network, in English and many foreign languages.

This position is vital for helping to provide quality scleroderma medical, support, and awareness information throughout the world.

Position Type

Virtual Volunteer. Candidate would work entirely from their own home via computer. Therefore they must have their own computer with Internet access as well as Microsoft software and PageMaker desktop publishing software.

Time Commitment

Approximately 20 hours per week on a regular basis, hours and schedule to be determined by volunteer.

Position Reports To

ISN PR/Marketing Manager (an open yet unposted position).

Language Requirements

Candidate must be able to read and write English.

General Responsibilities

This area is responsible for helping to define organization publication standards and conventions and seeking approval for publications and standards from the ISN Board of Directors. Oversee the creation and maintenance of Intranet library resources and desktop references for use throughout the organization.

Candidate must have exceptionally strong editing skills (in English) for final proofreading of all documents and publications before reviews and distribution.

International Scleroderma Network (ISN)

The International Scleroderma Network (ISN) is an international nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency founded in Minnesota. We provide healthcare information and support via our 800+ page Scleroderma from A to Z website (sclero.org) in 20 languages. We publish the Voices of Scleroderma book series, and we support international research efforts for scleroderma.

Scleroderma is a rare arthritis/autoimmune disease that is popularly known as the "disease that turns people to stone" because it causes a hardening of the skin, blood vessels and/or internal organs.

Essential Functions

1.	Develops and supervises a virtual team of editors, desktop publishers, graphic artists and writers.
2.	Coordinates requests for new and revised internal and external documents and publications (policy and procedure manuals, newsletters, marketing materials, books, medical journals, brochures, pamphlets, etc.)
3.	Develops a consistent format and appearance for all published materials through approved publication standards and conventions. Maintains and distributes these to the publications team and throughout the organization.
4.	Develops and coordinates all publication project plan schedules including reviews and distribution.
5.	Coordinates all printing requirements whether completed in-house or with an outside provider.
6.	Proofreads and edits text for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, concise and easy to understand language before distribution for reviews and final fulfillment.
7.	Works closely with ISN Volunteer Services in identifying viable candidates to fill open positions as required.

General Requirements

1.	Requires exceptionally strong teamwork and people skills for selecting, training and supervising an international team of virtual volunteer editors, desktop publishers, and writers.
2.	Demonstrated ability to plan and organize publication project plans.
3.	Ability to motivate a team to work within the established deadlines of a publication schedule.
4.	Disciplined and committed in completing projects within the requested timeframe.
5.	Willing to learn a great deal about scleroderma and related autoimmune symptoms as well as medical and pharmacological terms for best editing accuracy.

Qualifications

1.	Strong education and experience as a project manager for a publications area or virtual team of editors, desktop publishers, and writers.
2.	Exceptional attention to detail and experience in developing realistic and achievable publication project plans.
3.	Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects within requested timeframes.
4.	Ability to use own computer with Microsoft software products, PageMaker and email to receive and distribute work and drafts.
