Our Heart Goes Out to You!

Flowers in Loving Memory of Syl, by Sherrill Knaggs, ISN ArtistIf you, or someone you care for, has lost a friend, relative or co-worker to scleroderma, our heart goes out to you!

Unfortunately, systemic scleroderma is all too often disfiguring, disabling, and deadly. It leaves in its wake devastated loved ones. We may feel relieved that they are no longer suffering but, of course, we are bereft that they are gone.

Sometimes the illness moves so quickly or silently, or the diagnosis is so delayed, that we feel deprived of a chance for closure.

Ways in which we have dealt with our grief include donating in memory of our loved one; supporting medical research; writing a story in remembrance of them for posting on our website; and volunteering for scleroderma organizations.

In fact, many of us became involved in the cause of scleroderma only after our loved one had passed away. Usually we were too occupied trying to keep pace with their illness, or in denial that anything was seriously wrong with them, or simply unaware of how devastating scleroderma could be.

Please remember that we are always here for you. We are truly sorry for your loss, and we welcome your participation in the cause of scleroderma, in whatever manner and at whatever time that suits you best.
