Omega-3 Fatty Acids Consumption Linked To Lower Type 1 Diabetes Risk For Higher Risk Children. Children who are at higher risk of developing Diabetes Type 1 might lower that risk if they regularly consume omega-3 fatty acids, according to preliminary research. You can read about this in a report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Medical News Today. 09/25/07. (Also see: Diabetes and Alternative Therapies )
The impact of infliximab treatment on quality of life in patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Patients in large randomized controlled studies of infliximab in Rheumatoid Arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis had similar impairment in physical aspects of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) at baseline and showed significantly greater improvement in HRQoL after treatment with infliximab. Arthritis Research & Therapy 2007, 9:R103. (Also see: RA, Psoriasis, and Medications )
Interrelated modulation of endothelial function in Behcet's disease (BD) by clinical activity and corticosteroid treatment. Taken together, these results imply that corticosteroid treatment, although may deteriorate endothelial function per se during the remission phase of the inflammatory process, it restores endothelial dysfunction present during active BD, by counteracting the harmful effects of relapsing inflammation. Arthritis Research & Therapy 2007, 9:R90. (Also see: Behcet's Disease )
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in a Multiethnic US Cohort: Relationship Between Vascular Events and the Use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in Postmenopausal Women. HRT use in women with SLE should be individualized, but our data suggest its use may be safe if antiphospholipid antibodies are not present or vascular arterial events have not previously occurred. Journal of Clinical Rheumatology. Oct 2007.13:5. (Also see: Lupus )
Exacerbation of interstitial lung disease during etanercept therapy: Two cases. Caution is in order when using TNF alpha antagonists in patients with pre-existing lung disease. Management of Ocular Surface Inflammation in Sjogren Syndrome. Anti-inflammatory therapy in primary Sjogren syndrome significantly improved subjective symptoms and objective ocular signs; however, we did not find evidence that anti-inflammatory treatment increases tear production in patients with Sjogren syndrome. Cornea. 26 Supplement 1:S13-S15, October 2007. (Also see: Sjogren Syndrome )
Efficacy and Safety of hydroxychloroquine sulphate in rheumatoid arthritis: a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial - an Indian experience. Hydroxychloroquine was found to be an effective and well-tolerated drug in rheumatoid arthritis in Indian patients. Current Medical Research and Opinion, Volume 23, Number 9, September 2007, pp. 2227-2234(8) (IngentaConnect). (Also see: RheumaticTreatments and Rheumatoid Arthritis )
Limited effects of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment on molecular expression in muscle tissue of patients with inflammatory myopathies. The clinical effects of high-dose IVIG on muscle function in patients with refractory inflammatory active myositis did not correspond to effects on any of the investigated molecules in our study. Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases 2007;66:1276-1283. (Also see: Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis and IVIg )
