Modern life puts stress on heart. The stress of everyday life threatens to fuel an epidemic of cardiovascular disease, a report warns. The study says high blood pressure is rife, and implicates modern, frantic lifestyles, warning many under-estimate the problem at their peril. BBC News. 04/20/07. Eating Less Salt Could Prevent Cardiovascular Disease. People who significantly cut back on the amount of salt in their diet could reduce their chances of developing cardiovascular disease by a quarter, according to a recent report. Researchers in Boston also found a reduction in salt intake could lower the risk of death from cardiovascular disease by up to a fifth. ScienceDaily. 04/20/07.
Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) in Patients With Interstitial Lung Diseases. PH in patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) is not well recognized and can occur in the absence of advanced pulmonary dysfunction or hypoxemia. The ILDs most commonly associated with PH include connective tissue disease-related ILD, sarcoidosis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis.Red Orbit. 04/13/07. Scientists to unlock genes behind common serious illnesses. The biggest DNA analysis of whole human genomes will shed light on why some people are more at risk of developing a serious illness. They are examining 15,000 markers for genetic variations relating to another four diseases - breast cancer, autoimmune thyroid disease, multiple sclerosis, and ankylosing spondylitis. No known cure, but there are effective treatments for Myasthenia Gravis. Experts at the National Institutes of Health call the disease a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by varying degrees of weakness of the voluntary muscles of the body. She is using her abundant skills to help organisations as varied as the Disabled Riding Association and the Raynaud's and Scleroderma Society (of which she's president). Afternoon nap 'is good for heart'. A six-year Greek study found that those who took a 30-minute siesta at least three times a week had a 37% lower risk of heart-related death.
