Overview

Cluster studies can help pinpoint some of the causes of scleroderma. (Also see: Causes of Scleroderma, What is Scleroderma?, Types of Scleroderma, and Systemic Sclerosis)

Australian Clusters

Systemic scleroderma: a spatiotemporal clustering. Spatiotemporal clustering has been demonstrated only three times previously. We now report a fourth cluster around Edenhope, western Victoria, Australia, with a tenfold increased cumulative incidence to that expected. PubMed, Intern Med J. 2005 Apr;35(4):228-33.

Canadian Clusters

There might be a higher incidence of scleroderma than usual in the Nova Scotia area.

Cape Breton scleroderma sufferers look to provincial society for support. There appeared to be interest in establishing a Cape Breton chapter of the Scleroderma Society of Nova Scotia in Sydney to help make sufferers aware of the services the society can offer. Cape Breton Post, 05/28/2016.

Sydney residents dying early Sydney-area residents have a shorter lifespanthan other Canadians but no one can yet say why. Halifax Herald Limited.
