What is cyberchondria? It's hypochondria for the internet age.

It's easy to try a bit of self diagnosis, to google symptoms or perceived symptom but what happens when the suggestions become more than that and we latch onto them as potential diagnoses.

We then spend hours goggling every symptoms of the diagnosis and find we have them as well and hey presto we're spending so much time at our doctors there must really be something wrong with us, right?

Well, no. It may well mean we have succumbed to the phenomenon of cyberchondria.

Now, there's no harm in looking up symptoms or perceived symptom, it becomes problematic when it's our main focus and we join forums or chats like Sclero Forums to try and get a diagnosis.

Our Sclero Forums and Chat facilities are great places to receive support and advice, but they are not the place for you if you want someone to give you a diagnosis and relieve you of all anxiety. (Also see: What is Scleroderma?, Symptoms of Scleroderma, Difficult Diagnosis, and Sclero Forums)
