    New From Oz

Hi Karen, Welcome to the site! Hi Lizzie, When you mentioned your face felt like a rubber band pulling back it struck a cord with me pertaining to my hands. That's exactly how my hands feel when I try to open them. I can do it if I pull but right away they spring back to a semi open position. Anyone else's do this. I'm still struggling with not having a diagnosis and telling myself I must be imagining this. Hugs, Piper

    Just Catchin' Up

Hi Vee, I've not had a D & C but I'm sending gentle hugs your way hon. I have had a LEEP for carcinoma-in-situ of the cervix and I was knocked out for that and just had some minor cramping when I woke up. If they tell you that you will be out then you will be. I had this almost 10 years ago and I've had no reoccurances. Take care, Hugs, Piper

Hi Peanut, It was just the receipt that you get when you pic up the script from the drug store. I wouldn't worry. I was going from Canada to the U.S so maybe they are more strict with us. For you it's just like travelling from state to state. Have fun! Hugs, Piper

Hi Peanut, I flew today and just arrived in Key West. I was told to have all my meds in their original containers plus the official receipt for the script. They never looked at them but I had them all in my carry on in a large zip lock bag if they wanted to see them. You should take advantage of the wheel chair. Most airports are very large and everyone seems to goes like crazy. Hugs, Piper

Hi, I also have severe GERD and wake with a pain in my back and sometime choking. I can feel the soreness all the way down the esophagus. I take nexium before breakfast in the morning and that definitely helps but on nights when it is bad I chew 4 gaviscon with a little water before bed and this seems to help. It keeps the reflux down. I also have the head of my bed up 5 inches and keep a wedge on top of that. I was also taking a vitamin C with my iron at bedtime and I've cut that out and another thing that my druggist told me is not to drink milk. It promotes more acid, you would think the opposite. Hugs, Piper

    Skin Tightening

Hi Lizzie, My tightening seems to almost come and go. Some days I think it's all in my head. I wondered if anyone else started with tight palms on their hands. The very first tightening I noticed was just up to the first joint in my fingers, then the crease in my elbows has gotten hard and tight and now the palms are very hard. My hands are curling in but not from the whole finger being tight but from the tight skin on my palms pulling on it and swelling. The last couple of times my ana has been really low so my Dr. doesn't know what's going on but he has mentioned the tightening as well and told me to work on stretching them. Sorry about your miserable weather. We've had it too. Ice storms mostly but very grey outside and depressing. Hugs, Piper

    Severe Constipation...yuck!

Hi Kelly, I share your grief too. I go from one extreme to another but since I've been eating about 3 or 4 prunes a day I don't have the trouble I had. Good luck! Hugs, Piper

    Anyone Experience This?

Hi Vee, I'm not on any drugs that would cause menopause, just going through it on my own clock but I've had no periods up to 7 months and then Bam! When I went to Hawaii last year I'd been 7 months off andI thought that was it but as soon as I got there I started. Dang! Never fails! This year I missed 6 months. They say to mention it to the Dr. if you've been off more than a year and then you start back. Maybe like Janey mentioned it was a false menopause. Thanks again for the help with the G.P.S. I think we're looking at the same brand you bought. Hugs, Piper

    Peripheral Neuropathy

Hi Nan, I was told I have this in my foot and leg. I get numbness and pain all the way down. My Dr. put me on elavil and that helps more than any thing else for pain. I also have arthritis in that hip, knee, and sacroiliac joint so I'm not sure where it starts. Hugs, Piper

    Lump In The Throat

Hi Barb, I had this feeling for a couple of months but it's gotten better lately. It was so bad at one point that I felt like I had to sleep with my head tilted back so I could get enough air through. I thought, "oh great, now my upper throat is closing up too". As it has gotten better I'm thinking now that it is something like Shelly mentioned. I do have an enlarged thyroid but my blood work has been fine. I also have had several episodes with my throat closing up after I eat something cold. Really frightening. Hope you find some relief soon. Hugs, Piper

Stir in 3 cups of shredded Savoy cabbage, 2 cans beef broth, 1 can lentils (drained & rinced), 1 large can of tomatoes and 1/4 tsp. each of dried thyme, oregano & pepper. Simmer together. Serves 4-6

    Fibromyalgia And Scleroderma

Hi, I also was diagnosed with fibro 3 years ago. I have had 3 of the symptoms of CREST since then but have never been diagnosed with that. (severe GERD, Raynauds, T's) I also have a whack of blood tests being off and my g.p tells me I have a "grumbling disease". I don't know what to think, especially since my hands are hard now. I am also on amytriptylene and it helps some but I still have tons of pain. This is getting me down because the rheumatologist I saw also sees my friend with lupus and told her that she couldn't have fibro because " it was a wastebasket diagnosis". What is wrong with me then? VERY DEPRESSING to think this is all in my head. Sorry, I'm of no help. Hugs, Piper

    Mouth & Teeth Issues?

Hi kristen, I haven't talked with you in sooo long. How are the children and horses? I just wanted to say that I've been noticing this lately and I wake up every morning clenching my teeth. My dentist is going to make molds for me. First I need two crowns done and I don't have the money for it now so I'll have to wait for the molds and continue to do damage to my teeth. Take care, Hugs, Piper

    Need Travel Tips

Hi Beth, 14 days in Disney, wow, what a wonderful trip but it will be exhausting for even the healthiest of people. As the others have said there is a terrific amount of walking. We stayed at the Carribean and we found that just walking over to the food court was quite a hike. In the park you can rent scooters and if you have them you can go to the head of the line as well. It would be worth it so that you could enjoy the park even more. There are books on Disney that have hints for travelling with disabled or elderly people. You can usually rent them at your local library. Also if you have Gerd and have your bed raised at home you have to think of that. I have taken my wedge on other trips (takes up alot of room in suitcase) but now I've bought some plastic cups that go under the feet at the head of the bed to raise it. They are lightweight also and will fit nicely in my suitcase. We are heading to Florida as well in December but to the Keys. I know that my husband gets frustrated that I can't do what I used to do. He wants me to snorkel this time but I'm hesitant as I've been S.O.B and I'm afraid to get out in the water away from the boat and not be able to breathe. I feel like I'm letting him down. Have a great time, there is so much for the children to do. They will have wondrful memories of this trip. Take care, Hugs, Piper

Hi Erin, I really feel for you, I also have suffered from migraines with aura since I was 5. My Dr. put me on atenolol (a bet blocker) and I have only had 1 migraine in 6 months. Yea!!! It also lowered my B.P and slowed my fast heart rate. The downside is that it makes raynauds worse. Can't win them all I guess. Elavil also helps somewhat with migraines and I'm on that too. Good luck in finding some relief. Hugs, Piper
  18. Hi Peggy, I know that the reflux causes the same problems with my voice when it's bad. I know it's the reflex because I have burning and pain in my chest and throat as well. I've been putting off going to the Dr.s to see about it as I know that I'm probably to blame for the increase in reflux. Now if the kids would get the holiday chocolate out of the house I might be okay! ;) Take care, Hugs, Piper

    Combatting Fatigue

Hi Tammy, You have my sympathy. I would say that this is my worst problem lately. I don't work outside of the home and when I do something in the house I find I have to take frequent breaks. I can't vacuum one whole floor anymore without resting halfway through. When I was raking leaves for about 5 minutes the other day I got so tired that I went in and lay down on the recliner. I went dead out to sleep for about half an hour. This is not normal and I don't know the answer. Some days I think, I could go back to work and other days I know that I can't. I've found that I have to rest when my body asks for it or I'm no good for anything. Hugs, Piper

    Working In UK

Hi Tangelo, I believe there are some airlines that allow you to keep your dog with you. I have a friend who is flying from S.C to Germany this holiday and she was told that she could take her dog to her seat ( up to 16lbs.). When I get a chance to ask her I'll find out what airline she's taking. I wonder about the dog using the potty on a 8 hour flight tho??? How exciting to be moving to a new country for a few years. Curling Fingers

Hi Jax, My baby fingers are doing the same as your baby toes and are bending outward. My hands are pulling in but from the palm side being so hard. Anyone else have this? As I'm not diagnosed I'm wondering if this is truly sclero or if I have something else going on. The skin on the back of my hands is still quite moveable but it's just the palm side that's so hard. Sometimes my hands almost feel normal to me, really weird. I find I can't spread my fingers apart either and I still have quite a bit of joint inflammation on the large knuckles that I've had for the past five years. I wonder how much hardening it will take to be diagnosed. Hugs, Piper

    Spooky Shepards Pie

Sam, Thanks so much for the recipe, it sounds yummy. I'm going to try it next week. I never knew you could make Shepards Pie from ground beef. I've only ever made it with leftover roast of beef that I grind up and therefore we don't have it very often. This way I can make it anytime. :D Hugs, Pipes

    Okay Here Is My Question

Hi Betty, I have that feeling on one calf and foot. I have neuropathy in that foot and sometimes it's numb and other times painful and taking elavil at bed time helps it. For a few years I have also had the feeling of being wrapped in an ace bandage around my torso, especially when I lay flat or on my right side. It feels like my heart slows down also. I've had an echo to check my aorta and it was fine so the Dr. doesn't really know what's causing this but it is a weird feeling Take care, Hugs, Piper

    Hair Loss

Hi Ani & all, I have been going through hair loss off and on for awhile now too. I also wondered if it was related to this illness as I don't think I'm on any meds that could cause it. I know that hairloss is a symptom of lupus also. Another miserable symptom. :( Hugs, Piper

    My Endoscopy Results

Hi Nelly, You are not alone. I'm another who woke up during my scope. It wasn't too bad though because my Dr. spayed my throat VERY WELL to numb the gag reflex. He told me that was the trick to keeping you comfortable. I actually enjoyed watching it on the monitor. They also found esophagitis and gastritis in me. I also woke up during my first colonoscopy and like April found it to be very painful. I don't know if that was because of having colitis or not. I remember being up on my hands and knees and trying to leave. lol I told the Dr. this the second time and he must have given me more because I don't remember anything about that one. Hugs, Piper
