  2. I get a flu shot every year. They don't make me sick. I also highly recommend the pneumonia shot which is good for about 5-7 years. That was recommended by my rheumatologist and gastroenterologist because of acid reflux going into the lungs now and then. That is brutal- very painful when it happens and can cause chronic bronchitis and lung infections.
  3. Hi Jennifer, I believe the lines and deep wrinkles around my mouth are scleroderma related. I have CREST and over the years I have had severe facial, jaw pain from TMJ, and some wicked painful nerve in the cheek. When I was stressed and/or in pain I use to clench my teeth. I eventually got dentures -had all my teeth removed due to the gum pain, cracked and crumbling teeth etc., That did solve most of my facial pain, but the scleroderma seems to do a number on some of us in the mouth area. I don't like wearing my dentures- they feel so heavy and the dentist says it's because my mouth/jaw muscles have weaken and shrunk over the years. I have to keep getting them adjusted. I only wear my dentures when I go out . I don't miss the facial pain etc., that I had before I got dentures, but I do miss being able to eat some foods which I cannot eat with or without them. The other thing that happens is my jaw locks sometimes now and I think that's part of SD- like if we sit or don't move for a length of time we get stiff..I live alone and don't talk much so my jaw gets stiff. To solve that problem I talk to my cat more LOL! Take care, Judy

  9. Miocean, Would you mind sharing the symptoms that have lead you up for a transplant? I ask because I am in Stage 3 of Kidney Failure and have some odd uncomfortable symptoms that I think are kidney related but they are not unbearable so I won't spend the money to see a doctor before my next schedule appt with my nephrologist in January '07. Thanks. Take care Judy

  14. Not a commercial, but wanted to share that I have finally found a fruit juice I can drink with no acid burn in esophagus and stomach. There's a new plum juice that is delicious and I can drink juice again! Seriously, fruit has been something that irritates either my throat, stomach or bowels for years ( I have CREST). I cannot eat most fresh fruits like apples, citrus, even bananas irritate my gastro system and sometimes I crave some fruit, so I am delighted that this is doable and enjoyable for me. Don't know if any of you have the severe GERD that I have (I take 2 nexiums a day and tums) but this feels like heaven for me. Aside from vitamins, a daily ensure, I can barely tolerate what I call the white foods only- rice, pasta etc., so any new 'food' that doesn't hurt makes me happy.
