  1. Hello Karen, My husband recently had a picc line for some powerful heart medication that could not be given in a vein. He really had no problem with it. He had it for about 10 days. My mom had one a few years ago for about 2 months. She had a bone infection and had to have daily antibiotics. Both said it did not hurt to have it put in or taken out. They (the medical personnel) flush it to prevent infection. I believe you have to keep it dry (like showering). There is a IV attachment that you can see, it's on the top part of your arm. On my mom they kept one of those stretchy ace bandages on it when it wasn't being used. Both said it was not as bad as it sounds. Good luck Terri
  2. HI KAREN, MY ULCER DID NOT START THAT WAY. IT STARTED ON THE PALM SIDE OF THE FINGER TIP. BUT I HAVE HAD NAIL INFECTIONS. ONE WAS JUST RECENTLY. IT SOUNDS SIMILIAR. ONE DAY MY THUMB NAIL FEELS SORE THE NEXT IT IS TIGHT AND THROBBING. DOES IT FEEL WARM? MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON AN ANTIBIOTIC CIPRO. IT TAKES A COUPLE DAYS AND IT FEELS MUCH BETTER. I HAD THIS A FEW YEARS AGO. MY DOCTOR TRIED OTHER ANTIBIOTICS ONLY CIPRO HELPED. IT LINGERED FOR WEEKS AND I HAD TO HAVE MY NAIL TAKEN OFF. THIS TIME 4 DAYS I WAS ON CIPRO. I DEVELOPED A DARK SPOT AND NOW THAT IS GONE, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE NAIL HAS SEPERATED A LITTLE. DON'T LET IT GO TO LONG. I KNOW IT REALLY HURTS. IT HELPS TO ELEVATE IT. HOPE IT FEELS BETTER SOON.
  3. THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR FEED BACK. MY PRIMARY LOOKED BACK IN MY RECORDS AND LAST TIME IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A NAIL INFECTION. SHE PUT ME ON THE SAME ANTIBIOTIC CIPRO. OVER THE WEEKEND I DEVELOPED A BLACK SPOT UNDER THE NAIL. IT IS FEELING BETTER. STILL DON'T KNOW IF I WILL LOOSE THE NAIL. I WISH I JUST KNEW WHAT TRIGGERS THE INFECTION. AGAIN THANKS. IT SURE HELPS TO KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALONE WITH THIS DISEASE THAT NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF. I WAS DIAGNOSED 20 YEARS AGO WITH SCLERO AND Raynaud's.I LIVED IN MICHIGAN AT THE TIME. AFTER A COUPLE YEARS I RELOCATED TO WARM FLORIDA. CHOSE TO IGNORE MY SCLERODERMA. NEVER EVEN MENTIONED IT TO DOCTORS. THEN LAST YEAR A DERMATOLOGIST DIAGNOSED IT AND REFERRED ME TO rheumatologist. I ACTUALLY HAVE LIMITED SYSTEMIC SCLERO OR CREST. I WAS TOLD THAT MOVING TO A WARM CLIMATE WAS THE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE FOR MYSELF. I NOW LIVE IN NORTHERN FLORIDA, WHERE IT DOES GET COLD SOMETIMES. WELL ENOUGH VENTING. HAVE A WONDERFUL WARM DAY!!
  4. HELLO EVERYONE! WANTEDED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. MY rheumatologist'S ASSISTANT SAYS IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT IS ASSOCIATED WITH Raynaud's. SUGGESTED I SEE MY FAMILY DOCTOR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED.IT STARTS WITH THE FINGER NAIL GETTING VERY SORE. THEN IT TRAVELS TO BACK SIDE OF FINGER BEHIND NAIL. FINGER TIP SWELLS, WARM TO THE TOUCH. STARTS THROBBING PAIN CONSTANTLY. THERE IS NO BROKEN SKIN OR ANY SKIN OPENING FOR INFECTION TO GET IN. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THEY TOLD ME SOMETHING MUST HAVE GOTTEN UNDER THE NAIL TO CAUSE THE INFLAMMATION. THEY REMOVED THE NAIL. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF INFECTION ON THE OUTSIDE OF FINGER, SEEMS TO BE ALL INSIDE FINGER TIP. MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF CIPRO AND MY NAIL DID GROW BACK. NOW IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN WITH ANOTHER FINGER. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE IT'S NOT RELATED TO Raynaud's OR SCLERO. IT IS ESPECIALLY WORRISOME TO HAVE IT HAPPEN IN THE WINTER. LAST TIME IT WAS SUMMER AND THE INFECTION TRIGGERED BAD REYNAUD ATTACKS WITH IT 95 DEGREES OUTSIDE.
  5. Does any one know if it is okay with scleroderma to receive a massage?
