  1. The tips of my fingers have been sensitive for quite a while. Now most of my fingers look like tight wrinkled prunes. I also have cuts on them that look like paper cuts and they really hurt. Is the pitting just when you push in the skin and it doesn't bounce back or is it the wrinkling like a prune? Thanks for any help you can give me. Nan
  2. Thanks for all of your replies. Cheryle, I don't know about the antibodies, I don't think I have ever been tested for that. I was able to get in to see a dermatologist today. She thinks my hands look great! I don't have the hardening and no open sores. For the cuts she said to use Super glue or liquid bandaid. For something so little they sure can hurt! Have a good day! Nan
  3. Craig, I was offered Medicare after being on disability for less than a year, but I didn't do it. I am fortunate in that I get health insurance through the state because I was a teacher. Best of luck to you! Nan
  4. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet! Now it really is official. You got the letter!!!! Have a good day! Nan
  5. It sounds just like me! It can be 100 degrees outside and I am still freezing. It really makes the hands and feet hurt!!!!!!!!! I love the poem! Nan
  6. Welcome, Debra1 I was diagnosed in 2006. I too have horrible GERD and watermelon stomach. I have had two major GI bleeds. I only had to have two anticoagulation treatments last time to stop the bleeding. I am so sorry that you are having to have so many treatments and are still anemic. Feel free to private message me anytime. My GI doctor told me last Friday that scleroderma has definitely messed up my GI tract and there are no more meds he can give me. Hang in there! I hope that this last treatment will do the trick. Nan
  7. Yes, I have had so many doctors repeat it when I say Raynose, they say Raynadds and I want to say ,"That't not correct!" Nan
  8. Sweet, That's awesome!!! I didn't receive a letter saying I got it either. I got a call from Social Security saying I needed to come in and set it up for my son to get his payments. I said well why is he getting disability if I'm not. The lady said that I had been approved. My first check was huge because they did backpay from when I stopped working. My son also gets a monthly check because he is under 18. It is such a relief! I am so happy for you. Sit back and relax. You deserve it!!!!!!! :) Nan
  9. Hi, I have very low blood pressure. My Raynaud's was acting up so much that my rheumatologist said to try the lowest dose I could of Norvasc. It knocked me out for 17 hours and it took me two days to feel halfway decent. It really messed me up.... I just try to stay warm. Nan
  10. When I googled panniculus & definiton it said that it is a layer of fat under the skin. When I googled melanphages I got lost. I am going to keep trying on that one. It's me again. Melanophage is a phagorytic cell which contains brown or black pigment. A phagorytic cell is a cell eater. Clear as mud!!!! Have a great day! Nan
  11. Mimi, That is great news!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you. Thanks for sharing here. It gives all of us hope. Take care, Nan
  12. Truman, I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience. I was so lucky! My physician was so compassionate. The fingers turning colors freaked him out. I don't think it will do you any good to call the nurse. They aren't allowed to tell you anything. I know that the doctor that examined me said that he had nothing to do with the decision he just wrote down what he observed. Good Luck! Nan
  13. Barefut, I had it on my leg ,but I was fortunate in that it cleared up quickly. This was about 5 years ago. Watch it closely because it can become a problem. Take care and I hope you aren't in too much pain. Nan
  14. Hi Guys, Thanks for all of your sweet replies. As I tell my husband it could be worse. I have a lot to be thankful for.... Have a super day! Nan
  15. Snowbird, My nose gets red quite frequently. It looks similar to an alcohol-induced red nose. It really could glow in the dark. Mine even turns red in the summer. When I go from the heat to a/c. Mine comes and goes, it doesn't stay that way that long. Take care, Nan
  16. Peggy, I am so sorry that you are in so much pain. I haven't had a port, but I know of people that have had them. They didn't say anything about being in a lot of pain. I think that you should call your doctor. Take care, Nan
  17. Susannah, I noticed in your post that you get regular transfusions because of GAVE. I have GAVE too, but have only had two major bleeds. Have you had argon plasma coagulation done on your lesions? Nan
  18. Craig, I don't know the answers to your specific questions, but I do know that people on Social Security disability can work part-time there is a cap of the salary. I am on disability , but I don't work at all. Nan
  19. Linda, I sent you a private message with my answers. Nan
  20. Pamela, How many people are living with you? That's exhausting. Whenever I have my best friend visit for a weekend I am wiped out for at least a week. Hang in there! Nan
  21. Truman, It was a good sign for me. AFter I was examined by the physician for the state( I was a teacher) I got state and federal disability. The physician wrote 10 pages back and front about me. My husband did a flow chart to show how one ailment impacted another. For instance, I am in horrible pain all of the time but I can't take anti-inflammatories because I have a stomach that bleeds spontaneously. My Raynaud's is awful, but I can't take Norvasc because my blood pressure is already so low. When I tried the smallest dose I was bedridden for 17 hours! There are many more, but I won't bore you. If I were you I would download that new info I posted because scleroderma is there. Best of luck ! Nan
