Last week National Public Radio did a story on the dangers of long-term use of proton pump inhibitors as well as the difficulty in getting off of them. I was concerned enough about this story that scleroderma patients might try on their own to stop their PPIs without talking with their doctors first that I did a blog post on the topic, which is National Public Radio NPR Report on the Long Term Dangers of Heartburn Medicines.

Hello All So I am having my first gastroscopy :emoticon-dont-know: and second colonoscopy this month and have to stop omeprazole 10 days before. What am I supposed to do about my reflux during that time? I have stopped taking hydroxychloroquine (plaquenil) as of now, off my own back, because I am sure it makes my reflux worse/causes stomach pain and I can't afford that if I can't take omeprazole. Any suggestions as to what to do instead as I know oodles of you have had both procedures! Any suggestions as to what I can do, if anything, to make both procedures more bearable? :emoti
