This week the sun has been out after weeks of rain, rain, rain, fog, rain........

So all this weekend, I have been expanding a garden bed to move ove some plants that simply weren't working where they were. This morning I threw som bark over the finished and planted bed and have been basking in the sense of smugness that it gave me- I'm so proud of the result.

Ooh yes, Jeannie, my husband has massacred pruned our pear trees and we've spent the afternoon shredding the smaller branches.

It's rained today unfortunately but Thursday was certainly very spring like!! :emoticons-yes:

Today I moved three cartloads of composted manure to the potato bed, mixed it with ashes and rice hulls (the cheapskate version of potting soil.) I did two cart loads then went into the house for lunch. Usually that means the end of my work for the day as I normally can't make myself get up again.

Today I did get up and got that third load done. I ache but I am so proud of myself for ignoring the owies and getting on with it.

I know that you city girls are just shuddering (eweee- manure......) but I love to grow as much of my own food as possible. It is one of the great satisfactions to sit down to a dinner where you grew just about everything on the plate. Hmm.... maybe I should start making my own sea salt............

This girl isn't going eeuww! I bring bucket loads of goat/llama **** home in my car from visits to a friend who is generous enough to share! I did 6 solid hours out in the garden Saturday, mostly cleaning up last year's debris. I was pretty pleased too. Here's to the first spring herbs and lettuces!

Hi Jeannie and Enjoy,

All I can say is enjoy but don't go over doing it in the garden, remember your spoons!!! Anything more than a couple of hours and it can take me up to a week to get over it, grrrrrr!!!

Hi Jeannie and Enjoy,

I wouldn't go eeuwww either!!

I don't like gardening much but I used to let a lot of my friends have the manure when I had my horses.

The manure was in bags and I would include the odd grass snake as an extra for free!! ;) :emoticons-yes:

Today I felt so good I was looking for something to do (determined to ignore the giant dust bunnies in the house.) I decided to take my old horse for a walk down the road since I no longer have a dog to walk. I haven't ridden in two years so my girls have not been off the place in that long.

The weather was great, the neighbors amused and my 19 year old mellow mare stuck her tail straight up in the air and stepped like a show horse. After the walk I stopped in front of the drive and stood there while she "mowed" the grass for me. All around pleasing couple of hours.

Oh Enjoy, what a lovely way to spend a couple of hours!! :VeryHappy:

It's wonderful that both you and your mare were feeling so good and I bet she enjoyed it as much as you did!

(and you got your grass cut!! ;) )

Oh Enjoy, what a lovely thing to do! I hope you and the old girl go walkies often in the future. (We have dust buffaloes here and I can tell you from personal experience they'll hang around until you get to them.)

My #2 son was over and he picked all the dandelion blossoms he could find - he's about to learn the fine art of making country wines. I haven't made dandelion blossom wine in years, but it always used to be the official kick off to Spring. Live in the moment, eh? :)

:emoticons-line-dance: I'm happy today because I eliminated a major factor of stress in my life, am being proactive about my medical care, and it's a beautiful day! :emoticons-line-dance:

:woohoo: And I am headed for the beach! :woohoo:
