Gareth update

7 posts in this topic

Hi Everyone,

Since Gareth will be 22 years old on Monday, we saw his Pediatric Rheumatologist for the last time this week. What a bummer......she's followed him for the past 3 years, has always been so supportive, and always up to date on his medical issues. She's one of those doctors who answers phone calls or e-mails --- very friendly and never rushed. She has found another young rheumatologist who she says will be a good doctor for Gareth. His exit diagnosis read "UCTD, SICCA, Esophageal dysmotility, Raynaud's, + ANA, and + Anti-RNA AB. Currently on Plaquenil and stable." Hard to believe it's been 3 years but he's doing OK and that's all that matters. I would never had gotten through all this without all of your help, support, and guidence. It is greatly appreciated.

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

Isn't the word 'stable' absolutely beautiful? Hurrah!!

I'm sorry you and Gareth have to transition to another doctor, but hopefully you will like him as well as the great doctor Gareth has grown out of. She sounds wonderful.

It's a good thing we don't have sound on the Forum or Gareth would be covering his ears on Monday as we all sing Happy Birthday to him. Give him an extra big hug from me and all of us here on the Forum.

And while I'm sending special wishes, I wish you the best ever Mother's Day this Sunday. You're a great one.

:flowers:

Hi Jeannie ,

Yes, *stable* is a very nice word to hear and I hope it lasts a long time!!! She was a bit concerned about the dry eyes/mouth business, though, since he's already on the Plaquenil. She even commented "Everyone is so different with this disease (Scleroderma)."

Thank you for the Mother's Day wishes and I want to wish all Moms out there a Happy and relaxing Mother's Day.

Amanda......you brought a big smile to Gareth's face when he saw your "Happy Days" going around :happy-day:

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret

Margaret it is always so great to hear how staying on top of Gareth's health really helped him go through each phase of his disease smoothly.

You are a great mom and I wish you a Happy Mother's Day also. flowers.gif

Do tell Gareth Happy Birthday from all of us here on ISN.

Hi Margaret

Glad to hear Gareth is holding his own and 'stable'...that's always such good news!

My guess is that since she's that terrific a doctor, then she'll only refer the same and Gareth will remain in excellent hands for his next journey! :fairy:

Happy Birthday Gareth!

Sending good wishes your way!
