Hi Everyone!

I would welcome anyones experiences/treatments for a sore gum and tongue :temper-tantrum: . I have had a sore gum and tongue for a couple of days. My sense of taste is awful, food tastes nondescript has for about 3 weeks, and I don't fancy food as it doesn't taste of anything much. My gum feels like it does if you've a mouth ulcer but there's not one to be found. Been swishing my mouth with Nystatin oral suspension (thought I could have thrush) but it just feels weird! Thought I'd ask you guys if you'd had this sort of bother before heading to the doctors...again! Hope all's well with you all and you are enjoying the warm UK weather!

Warm hugs and thanks,

Lynn xx :emoticon-hug:

My mouth became very sensitive to everything. Things even slightly spicy burned. I could not use any regular toothpaste. I tried many different things to help clean my mouth. Finally found a kids toothpaste that was bubble gum flavor. Not good. I used a very soft toothbrush designed for infants. This went on for weeks. Then I developed little sores in my mouth.

The rheumatologist diagnosed it as Sjogrens. She prescribed Evoxac. Gradually it cleared up. It is good now and I am back to regular products but use the Evoxac regularly.

Also the dentist gave me samples of Biotene. There is mouthwash, toothpaste and one to use to help with the dry mouth. I use the mouth wash. It is a weird stuff works oddly. It was not in the toothpaste section but another group of such things.

My problem was over months, not days.

Hi Lynn,

I'm sorry you are having mouth issues and hope you find the cause of them soon.

As I understand it, there are many possible causes of such symptoms, including things like acid reflux, sinus infections, tooth infections, gum infections, and so on and so forth.

You'll see "infection" thus becomes a pretty high possibility, and both infections and heartburn are treatable so there is no need to continue suffering. If your symptoms haven't cleared up on their own by now (you've given it plenty of time to resolve naturally!), it really is time to shuck the do-it-yourself approach and consult your primary care physician.

They should be able to help get you back on track, and feeling better, soon. Let us know what you find out, will you?

Hi Lynnie,

A cause of a sore mouth for me is immunospressant medication (currently methotrexate)- I don't know if you are on any medication that could be casusing yout problems?

It would certainly be worth consulting your doctor or dentist if things haven't improved.

Lizzie

I had problems with my mouth in November.I couldn't eat anything except soft things and soup. I went to my general practitioner thinking it was a sore throat. He gave me some medicine, I don't remember what. It didn't get better so I went back. He did cultures that came back negative. I went to my dentist but she said everything looked fine. They both suggested I see an ENT. My dentist recommended one so I called and it took me days to get through. An appointment was scheduled a week before I was going to FL. I thought about it, decided I didn't like how long it took me to get hold of his office and cancelled the appointment. It eventually got better on its own. At the time there were others on the forum who had the same problem. Do a search for mouth sores and you will find the posts. I hope yours goes away.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks alot for your replies. I will head off to the doctors tommorrow and see what he comes up with and let you all know how I go and what he says. I've taken on board about the possible vitamin deficiencies, as I know I do have reflux and bowel issues; have had them for years! So it could well be am "short" of something!!

Warm thoughts to all,

Lynn xx :emoticon-hug:
