What do you want to do before Autumn arrives?

10 posts in this topic

Hi Everybody,

I want to stock up on things like silly novels, low-calorie pre-portioned snacks, and maybe a new fleece 'throw' and a better reading light (one that will put out some warmth, forget green, I want heat!). I'd like a footstool too. Wonder if they make heated ones? Hmmm...

The other thing I'd like is to have a last picnic up in the mountains.

How about you? Last chance summer stuff or anticipating cold weather?

Warm hugs,

First of all, I want to enjoy every day that's left of the summer at the beach. It goes by so fast, even as brutally hot as it was where I live this summer. I am now shopping for fall clothes. I've decided I LOVE sweatshirts better than sweaters and everything I had was so old and now is too big that I have picked up a couple of new ones. I am also buying long pants and jeans. I don't know if you remember, but I cleaned out my closets and drawers after my transplant and got rid of everything that didn't fit, now I am even smaller so I am sorry that I got rid of some things. Of course, they changed the styles of pants so skinny is in and I love my bell bottoms. Getting some straight legged jeans, I just can't wear the really tight ones. I have a bunch of warm, cozy blankets because the dialysis unit was so cold so I am all set with that. I will be looking for a pair of black leather gloves, mine are so old they have holes in them but they are so warm I hate to give them up.

I want to get together with all my teacher friends who get too busy during the school year. Summer just doesn't last enough!

I want to get at least one more wear out of my summer maxi dresses and I'd like to have one more barbeque. I'm wondering what Autumn will be like now I've turned into a Sweaty Betty, maybe the summer maxi dresses will continue until winter!

Take care.

We're actually debating whether to get a new fridge/freezer. :jump-for-joy: Mine is really on it's way out ( it's leaking a bit although it does still work and I must have had it at least 10 years, if not longer) and it probably deserves a decent burial. The fridge part is too small and trying to get everything into it is a bit of a nightmare. We've seen one we like so I think I'll probably justify it to myself and get it!! ;) ( I really must get out a bit more; how sad to get excited over a fridge/freezer!!!  )

We might also have a weeks holiday in the West Country of England sometime during the Autumn. :)

"I'm wondering what Autumn will be like now I've turned into a Sweaty Betty, maybe the summer maxi dresses will continue until winter!"

Oh, Amanda, you and I are together on this aspect! I have always been a really cold person, wrapped up warm and always had the heating on. Now, all of a sudden, I'm wearing summer clothes even though it's gone chilly out (Trust me, those of us North of Birmingham in the UK are NOT enjoying the summer they are having in the South :glare: ) and sit at my desk at work, with my personal fan going !

I'm hoping to have one more nice weekend, so I can use the brand new BBQ, that arrived the day the weather changed for the worse. *heavy sigh* It taunts me each time I go in the garage !

I am lucky this year, as I made a concious decision to go on holiday in the winter (hoping that my Raynauds would ease off in the warmer months) and I have a couple of weeks in the Dominican Republic planned just before holiday. :happy-day:

So you're the reason the rain started! We've had one BBQ so far and it rained in the a.m. but thankfully not in the p.m. Let us know when you bring out your BBQ so we can be ready for the snow!

Take care.

Well, ladies, you'll be pleased to know that we managed to get the BBQ out on Monday evening :

And it DIDN'T snow :happy-day:

I'm hoping it can make an appearance over the bank holiday weekend too, but *shhhh* don't tell the weatherman !

Okay...So I've "decided" it's not going to snow! :P After all, when a person doesn't ski or do any of those other outdoor activities, why not just "settle" for rain?!

Anyway... I had let Jeannie know that we're moving into (what used to be) my dad's bedroom, which is upstairs. Prior that though, we have a bit to do... Hubby cut the area out (just today) where the door will be installed, which will allow us to get into the basement (our living area) without having to walk through my mother's living space. In order to this, we're having some electrical moved (tomorrow) in order to accomodate the doorway. On Saturday, I'll then be able to relocate items that have been stored in what will be our bedroom, which won't take me long at all, considering how excited/anxious I am to make our move! I can hardly wait!!!

Considering how deliberate our (my) planning has been (ironically, I've been the hold-up on this entire process!), it's as though I've done this a THOUSAND times, so this should be expeditious, from now to the end! :emoticons-yes:

Once moved in, we'll probably get a radiant heat fireplace, as this bedroom is split-level from the rest of the house and under the carpet...is concrete!

This will enable me to then get the rest of our belongings out of storage...WooHoo!

Oh! I'm crossing my fingers for a long, beautiful autumn so we can continue to BBQ and enjoy the gorgeous weather! After all, the longer autmmn, the longer the flowers last!

Every year it's the same with me- trying to get the shed stuffed with hay for the winter and get footing for the horses so they aren't standing in mud all winter.

But around here, I think we missed summer and have been in fall since June when if finally stopped raining. It was one of those Mark Twain summers- the ones where he said the best winter he ever spent was one summer in San Francisco. Brrrrr.......

but I had the chimney sweep out this week and have my wood stored so the house is ready. The one real joy of winter is sitting in front of the wood stove watching the fire dance around and toasting my toes. It's actually warmer in my house in the winter than in the summer!
