Crisp pickles (garlic and otherwise)

At last~ But I can't remember who I promised it to~ :blush:

 

My kiddo says the crisp garlic pickles were exactly the same recipe as the sun pickles, but without the dill and cucumbers. Shows what I know. These are sooo good.

 

Sun Pickles

small cucumbers, washed and dried.

6.5 cups cold water

3.3/4 cups white vinegar

2/3 cup pickling salt

2 Tbsp. alum

 

Fill jars with pickles and any additions (below). Mix up the water, vinegar, pickling salt, and alum. Stir till salt and alum are dissolved and fill jars to top. Leave 3 days in the sun, then refrigerate or keep in a cold place (my garage worked well all winter). You have to use pickling salt or the pickles turn dark and the liquid looks murky. The alum makes them crisp.

 

Can add garlic, dill weed, dill seed, and red pepper flakes, small dried red peppers, or black peppercorns
