Interstitial Lung Disease means?

Recommended Posts

What exactly does this mean? Is it different from Lung Fibrosis and PAH? When I research it they are all together. Is it that they are just different parts of the lung disease?

I have one more question a year ago I had a chest xray that said I had mild hyperinflation of the lungs. About a month ago I was told I now have PAH. Do you think that was just a prefix to the PAH and no one picked it up? Thanks for being so patient with the questions, I have so much to learn!

Stay well

Hi Mary,

Hopefully someone will come along with some thoughts. I haven't had any testing in this area and my knowledge of it is nill. In the meantime in case you haven't found these pages yet, check these out: Here are links to Interstitial Lung Disease and Lung Fibrosis and also Pulmonary Hypertension/Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension..

Take care,

Hi Mary,

Sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) and I can understand that you're feeling confused and worried.

Interstitial Lung Disease describes a large group of lung disorders, most of which cause inflammation and progressive scarring of lung tissue. It is another name for lung fibrosis, but doesn't necessarily mean that PAH will follow. To give you an example, I have Interstitial lung disease (lung fibrosis) but thankfully do not have PH/PAH.

I've given you another link to Hyperinflation of the Lungs which does explain the condition and I do hope will give you some more answers to your questions.

Kind regards,

Thank you Chopper, and yes I have seen and gotten a lot of great info from those sites.

Joelf Thanks for the great info, I get it now. I will be having the Pulmonary function test in about a week to keep an eye on things, I will let you know how it goes.

Stay Well Mary

Hello Mews

As per the links you've been given you can see that lung fibrosis/interstitial lung diease is a different disease from pulmonary hypertension/pulmonary arterial hypertension. You can have both and I know some sclerodermians that do but then again you could just have one.

Let us know how your test goes.

Take care and keep posting.
