I've only just joined these forums recently but you have all helped me so much.

Someone said to me, "everyone on here has experienced loss in some way". Scleroderma has certainly taken a lot from me...but today I took something back. I finally got up the courage to go swimming. I was so scared to expose all the marks Morphea has left me with but more than the fear, was anger at this disease breaking me down to the point of stopping me doing something I used to love.

So I may not be in the shape I was some years back and I've got a long way to go till I get to where I wanna be but today I took that first step. I feel so proud of myself that I finally did it and while it was really hard I'm so glad I did.

If it wasn't for speaking to some of the people on here I don't think I would have been able to do it. This is just the beginning and one day I hope to help and inspire someone the way so many of you have done for me.

Thank you!!!

Hi Nickisboi25,

What a lovely post!.......I'm so pleased for you! :emoticons-clap:

You've been truly courageous and I'm sure now that you've taken the first step there'll be no holding you back!! You must feel so pleased and proud you were able to partake in a sport that you really enjoy again. It's a pity that you're not nearer to me (I'm in Sussex) or you could come to my gym with me....(we don't have a swimming pool unfortunately; I would describe the facilties as basic! ;) ) It's a very friendly gym, though and I've met some lovely people there!

Good for you and may you continue to enjoy your swimming!! I'm doing the Sclero Happy Dance for you!

Hello Nickisboi25,

Way to go! What's that expression, baby steps? One thing at a time and before you know it you'll have reclaimed everything back from morphea, except the patches of skin of course but really, what are they, just patches of skin.

Keep going and keep us posted.

Take care.

Thank you guys!!!

Sorry for the late reply, I've been ill with flu for most of this week (men and colds don't mix). Planning to go back next week and make it a regular thing. I feel so pleased I was able to do it, because at times I really didn't think I could! :)

Joelf I would love to go to the gym with you but I'm a city boy...London town.

Hi Nickisboi,

Congratulations on your swimming adventure! I'm sure that broke a sound barrier for you and I hope that it is just the beginning of restoring many joys that you thought were no longer in the cards for you.

Warm Hugs,
