Fonts and Emoticons for Mac users when posting Forum message?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've asked this before, and I'm sorry to ask again. I've tried to do a search to see if I could find the thread where it was explained to me, but I guess I don't know how to do a proper search either lol.

I use a Mac. I'm not seeing an option anywhere when composing or replying to a message that allows me to change fonts, use emotions....or anything. Just plain old boring post. :(

Help?

Warm and gentle hugs,

Hi Sweet,

Got me.  I'm stumped!

If I remember right, which I probably don't, I think it is Miocean who holds the keys to a lot of the Mac secrets for the forums. I am going to revise the title of this post so that Mac users can more readily jump in to help.

Sweet,
Here's my take on it:

The usual search engine for Macs is Safari. When the forum went through an upgrade a few years ago the use of emoticons, fonts, hyperlinks, etc. were no longer available on Safari so it was necessary to use Firefox.

Then, a while ago, magically the options were available on Safari. You would need to open the "More Reply Options" link at the lower right and would have full access to all those neat things.

A couple of months ago the link no longer worked to open the options, although under "Post Options" in the right sidebar they show they are enabled.

If you use Firefox you can still open "More Reply Options" and will get all those neat tricks.

Shelley,
Did the forum go through some sort of upgrade a few months ago that may have modified this? If so, is there a way to put this feature back into Safari? I've been too lazy to switch back and forth so my posts have been plain text for a while.

I'll repost immediately via Firefox to show the difference.

Hi Miocean,

Yes, our forums undergo major upgrades several times a year, with many minor updates in between. Any of them can (and do) affect functionality in different systems or browsers. Many of them are designed to thwart cyber attacks, so it depends on what vulnerabilities have been exploited in the existing code.

Sometimes the programmers are able to restore some of the cool features, and sometimes they just bite the dust forever. I don't like it when we lose cool features, in any of the platforms, but overall, it is better to be safe, than sorry!

Hi Miocean and Sweet,

We survived two more software updates yesterday and today. I really doubt it changed any MAC functionality (for better or worse), but you may want to check, just in case it did.

Sweet, I'm a Mac user too and have not found the options in recent months so will try the more reply options and see if it works for me.

Given it at go and sadly it still doesn't work.

Tech support suggested that Mac users with this issue should try to clean out their browser's cache, and then try accessing the forums again, to see if the fancier options appear again. And it's possible our system might not be properly detecting Macs, or Safari.

But first of all, Buttons or Sweet, can you please try the browser cache cleaning and see if it restores things, and let us know the results?  Thanks for your help reporting this and helping us get it sorted out!

Thanks, Miocean.  That really helped narrow down the problem.  We are trying to fix it now.

Theoretically, at least, this technical issue has been resolved.  Could any/all of you please try again using Mac/Safari and let us know how it goes?
