Hippocampal atrophy is associated with cerebrospinal fluid anti-NR2 antibodies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS).

 

Anti-NR2 antibodies cause neuronal death observed as reduced hippocampal grey matter in patients with SLE and pSS as previously demonstrated in mice with autoimmune disease. PubMed, Arthritis Rheumatol, 2014 Aug 22. (Also see: SLE Symptoms and Sjogren's Syndrome)
