Diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma.

Recommended Posts

I have today been diagnosed with systematic (I believe) scleroderma, blood test confirming 99% positive.  Bit of a pain, as I already have, confirmed last week, emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis.

Seems all these diseases are coming from the same source, my workplace, finished doing that job 25 years ago.  Undergoing another battery of tests, MRI, Xrays of hands,  heart scan and a capillaroscopy, whatever that is.

Bit overwhelmed by all this.

Hi Reglois,

Welcome to these forums!

I'm sorry to hear that you've been diagnosed with systemic scleroderma and are feeling rather overwhelmed. Firstly, you are quite fortunate (or unfortunate, depending on your point of view) to have obtained a firm diagnosis, as scleroderma is a notoriously difficult disease to diagnose and positive blood test results do not necessarily mean that you will go on to develop the full blown disease, as many of our members can testify.

I've included links to our medical pages on Common Medical Tests for Scleroderma which include blood tests, capillarscopy, imaging, and skin viscoelasticity tests,  Causes of Scleroderma and Lung Symptoms in Systemic Scleroderma which I hope you'll find helpful and informative. We do recommend that our members, if possible, consult a listed scleroderma expert, as such a complex and problematic disease as scleroderma does require specialist knowledge and expertise.

Kind regards,

Jo Frowde
