Took The Plunge

Recommended Posts

So, I've finally taken the plunge after many months reading the forums ;)

I was diagnosis with system sclerosis in May of this year but first had symptoms in early summer of last year. So far have practically full body skin involvement, some raynauds, watermelon stomach and gastric reflux also some lung/heart involvement. Had my first transfusion a few weeks ago which was horrendous due to much trouble inserting needles but unfortunately NO WEIGHT LOSS yet (is nothing ever fair) joking aside as I know this is no joke to some. Many more polings and proddings lined up.

On a personal note I am 53 years old, happily married for a very long time. I have 2 sons (35 and 32 years old and 1 daughter 20 years old next month) and also 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. I work full time for the local government service who have been very good as I do find it a bit of a struggle at times.

I could go on adn on now I've started but as it's 3.30a.m. I should try to sleep, that's the worst part.

Regards

Vee

Vee,

I'm so glad you decided to take the plunge. Since you did it that means you already know what a great place this is. Lots of wonderful people and great information. So welcome! We are so glad you are here.

I'm sorry that have been diagnosed with SSc and are having to deal with so many issues so soon. You've probably already checked out the site, but just in case I'm supplying the link to our main scleroderma symptoms page. Each page or series of pages have recent studies and research on most of the possible symptoms of SSc. Some people like a lot of information and other don't, so it's there for you when and if you want to take a peak.

You sound very upbeat. That's definitely a good thing. I'm sure having a loving family is a lot of it. We hope you post often.

Again - welcome!

Big Hugs,

Hi, Vee. Wow, you are from Fife! I am from Glasgow. Let me add my welcome to the ISN Sclero Forums. Sorry to hear that you have already had so much difficulty in such a short time. Janey has given you a good link to start with but there is so much to read in the medical and news pages and also in the forums. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Warm wishes,

Jefa

Welcome,

I am sorry about your diagnosis. I too have watermelon stomach and I hate the transfusions. Did you have the argon plasma coagulation done on your bleeding vessels in your stomach?

Take Care,

Nan
