Anxiety

Hi

Can anyone tell me if anxiety is a "symptom" of scleroderma and autoimmune diseases....or is it a totally separate disease of its own? Thanks.

Hi Snowbird,

As I understand it, anxiety is not a symptom of scleroderma; rather it just commonly occurs along with many chronic illnesses, including scleroderma.

It is definitely something that needs to be evaluated, and treated. See our pages on Anxiety and Attitude.

Anxiety can also be induced or be a symptom of other associated illnesses such as thyroid disease, heart problems, and lung problems (like asthma). Thus it is important to report it to our medical team.

Snowbird:

Also check the side effects of all the meds you are taking. I have found anxiety to be a common side effect for some meds.

Hi

Thanks everybody... that helps. I have found that each year lately I seem to get more and more anxiety....never had a clue as to why and never mentioned it to my doctor, kept meaning to just never thought of it when I got there (only seem to think of it when I take another little anxiety trip)...now I'm making lists when I go.....so I was just trying to figure out if it was possibly caused by the Scleroderma and FM I have....

I agree with checking your meds as I was put on Reglan and as a result the anxiety was terrible. I was crawling out of my skin it was so bad. They said it was a toxic result from the med.

Warm hugs from Minnesota.

Peggy
