Appeal Result

16 posts in this topic

I know that some of you are aware that I was dismissed from my job in January due to my ill health well today was the appeal / grievance hearing. It was a very long 2 meetings and at times was very unpleasant especially from Human Resources but with the support from my union I managed to survive it all.

I wanted to share my result with you all because I actually won my appeal!

The grievance part was not upheld but without the dismissal I'm not sure there would be a case. It has left me feeling much better in myself knowing that I stood up to them and stated my views. I did speak up & did not leave everything to my union guy which in it self has boosted my own self esteem which has been pretty low for quite a while now.

I have now got some time to really consider my options but even though I have won I do not wish to return there to work because it has left me with a nasty taste in my mouth. So will continue to see if Ill Health Retirement is possible or re-deployment or whether a redundancy is an option.

Thanks for listening to me ramble on but at least SSc has not beaten me yet.

Jensue:

That's the most important part; participating on your own behalf. So many times, things are done behind closed doors and you're not even aware of it.

Congrats on today's victory. Why, oh why, do we have to fight so hard?

Relax tonight and celebrate. Decide in your own time when and where you want to be.

Jensue,

I'm very proud of you... for speaking on your own behalf. It IS very empowering when we stand up for ourselves.

Besides...Union Reps, though well intentioned... may not always say all the right things. In your case, you did and that's so great!

Congratulations

Hugs,

Susie

Thankyou for all your kind messages.

I have to admit it felt good to have stood up for myself because normally I don't like to speak up and prefer to stay in the background.

I will now wait to hear from union after we receive the letter telling us the appeal was upheld to see what my options are. he has also told me not to do anything until it's run past the union, possibly because they may try to be very awkward especially HR.

I though I would have slept well last night but I didn't so still feel very exhausted to day, anyway hopefully I will sleep tonight after a glass of wine to celebrate.

Thanks again

Jensue
